I've got a straight through high performance muffler*.
When I roll off the throttle it pops and crackles just like a race bike. It certainly does not sound like a scooter.
* not recommended for Meldrew

| I've got a high performance muffler, only I wear mine and it's called a scarf here in the UK. |

I hope it's not a straight-through design, as that would be quite ineffective at creating an insulating boundary layer to keep your neck warm. I would highly recommend the totally restrictive muffler, not the high performance version, around your neck.
Have you thought of wearing the catalytic muffler? It's platinum, rhodium, and palladium interlaced with the fabric material would combine with the polluted UK air to produce water vapour, CO2, and lots of HEAT, an exothermic reaction. Unfortunately, that model would only work if you lit it on fire. Nobody wants a flaming Meldrew. |

Do you plan to drill out your air box? If so, I have read that it is better to put a dozen or so smaller holes (1/4") than two or three large ones due to smoother air flow through the small holes. That's what I did. The small holes also keep out rodents. |
