Hi all,
My name is Dave Pallett, I live in Edmonton,Alberta, Canada. I am a new member. Just traded my Vespa GTS250 for a 2005 Silverwing. Dearly loved my Vespa for getting around town but was feeling the pull of the open road. Thought about a Goldwing but decided that was a wee bit too much of a jump. Picked up my Silverwing a couple of days ago in Calgary (about 3hours ride away) rode it home and I'm loving it! I have a question though, and I may be re directed to another topic section, but after I got home and was locking the steering I noticed there is some play in the steering. I didn't notice it while I was riding and generally don't except at very low speeds. Is this normal? if not, does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be and how to fix it. I have the service manual and am not averse to turning a wrench. thanks,
dp

Welcome Dave,

The Canadian SWing connection is growing!

I'm not familar with your issue but I'm confident you will enjoy your switch to the SWing and someone on the forum will be able to suggest a fix.

welcome Dave, we are happy to have you here. With the fear of being yelled at for telling you to go to the search function, that is what I did. I put in steering and found a number of posts that might be of interest to you. I personally don't have the expertise to advise you. Hope you get some good rides in before the snow flies. motorcycle

Thanks all for your warm welcome!
Thanks bigbird for your advice on my steering issue. When I sit on the bike with the front brake on I can move the handlebars a couple of inches then I feel them engage and the wheel turns. If I stand in front pinching the front wheel between my legs, I can move the handlebars from side to side before I turn the wheel. It seems to be an equal distance either side and the bars almost feel like they are rolling over something in the middle. Not catching or rubbing or anything, no noises or scraping type of thing, they move smoothly. I would say the end of the bar moves about 1 or 2 inches before engaging.
thanks dp

Thanks bigbird,
I have been looking at the manual and agree that looks like a lot of dis-assembling. I think I will try one of the Honda repair places....unless I'm feeling brave and find myself with nothing to do for a couple of evenings....

Well I got my steering fixed. Took it in to Scona Cycle here in Edmonton. They were friendly and helpful. Turned out to be just the pinch bolts and they had it done in about an hour. Cost me $80.00 so I'm happy. Probably could have done it myself but wasn't sure if it was going to have anything to do with the bearings or not and I don't have the tools for that. Plus we are running out of weather and I wanted a quick fix! Next up, Heated Grips...I wanna go til the snow flies!! Having too much fun!
