Handlebars

Hi boys and girls

The handlebars on my swing when riding along straight are very very slightly set off/twisted to the right, maybe half inch at the end of the bar. It may have been dropped, hardly noticeable but now I've spotted/noticed it, it bugs me. If I take the plastic off, is there a clamp bolt that I can loosen and steady the front wheel, grab the bars and tweak it back?

I'm bored really and just picking small faults, can't ride it at the mo coz done my back in!! Just in time for Christmas, gloom!

I would loosen fork pinch bolts on triple tree---relieve stress, put wheel/front fender between legs, pull bars into line. re-tighten pinch bolts. Bars bent, another deal.

I second John's post. I had a low-speed fall a few months ago and also had the handlebars twist just slightly like you indicated. I suspected that the triple-tree bent and though I would have to replace it. I took the cover off of the handlebars and with a long thin wrench (I think it was 17mm, but possibly 14. I loosened the 2 pinch bolts that clamp the triple-tree to the handlebar clamp, straightened the handlebars (there was a few millimeters of play), tightened it back up and it's been fine since (4 months). I don't know if the triple tree did twist or just the clamping part, but I haven't noticed any drivability difference- the bike tracks just fine up to 85mph. I hope it's just as easy a fix for you as I had.

I had the same problem after trailering the swing, seems I had the straps to tight. I was able to reach the clamp bolts at the top of the springs without removing any plastic , then had a budy hold front tire straight while I turned bars then retightened bolts.hope this helps.

I want a early riding season,with the snow gone.

I had the same thing with my previous SW a 2004. I bought it from someone whose wife had dropped it. Besides a scraped body panel the handlebars were twisted a little bit to the right. Not much, in fact I didn't notice it until I'd had the bike for a couple weeks. It only took loosening and retightening the clamps to cure it.

Ok boys and girls think I got it sorted, removed the plastic off the bars and saw a 17mm bolt that held the top metal clamp that holds the bars to the stem. Loosened it off and managed to tweak the bars even though there was a locator pin in the groove on the stem that was a real neat fit. Need to give the swing a test ride to check it out but I'm pretty sure I have fixed it. The side plastic bits on the bars were a bit of a bit of a pain to fit back snugly coz of the amount of stuff that needs to be hidden but in the end everything went back ok. Back is a lot better after a visit to the docs so really looking fwd to getting the swing out and about for a ride! Mark
