PostSubject: Hello from Wiltshire   Fri Feb 11, 2011 3:02 pm

Hi All, I ride a 2008 Silverwing in digital silver with just under 10,000 miles on the clock. I have recently bought the Givi E470 monolock box with the silver top and a Givi sat nav holder which fits well in the middle of the handlebars and lets me use the Garmin I use in the car. I have already found this forum very informative, especially the maintenance pictorials. Like everyone else in this hemisphere I am looking forward to the warmer weather!

Elick,

Amen to the warmer weather... and welcome to the site. Snow has just now started melting off the driveway here in NE Kansas and we're all hoping for much warmer air. Again, welcome, I know you'll enjoy this great site.

Elick,

Welcome to the site and hope you can be an active member. And please post pics of your bike and rides you do in England. There are also many members here from the other side of the pond. You may want to try to get some rides up with some over there. Welcome.

Hi Elick.

Welcome to the forum.

The sun came out here one day during the week and it reached a balmy 6C with a blue sky, no wind and dry roads so I headed out for a 60 mile run in and around Edinburgh - Absolutely great.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. The sun shone here today and my wife and I visited friends on the Silver Wing it's the first time she has been on a bike in thirty something years!

Wiltshire, Welcome from the Heartland of America, Enon, Ohio, a village really surrounded by corn fields. I ride an 07 Silver Wing. It's one of my dreams to ride in your Island Realm as days of yore i was in Scotland. and want to return. How does one go about crating a Silver Wing and loading it and myself across the Atlantic. I need to check this out.

Papa Johns,

It would be a lot easier and cheaper to hire one while you were here rather than try and import yours.

Once you've found somebody will to ship it - on arrival it will be inspected - at your cost - then in all probability, it would have to be modified to meet UK (meaning European) specifications, which are destinctly different from ones in the US.

Then the UK government, Her Majesties Customs & Excise and the dreaded VaT Man will also be very happy to relieve you of 'X' amount of pounds based on 'their' idea of the current value of your machine - which never, ever bears any true relation to actual market values!

Having got through all this you next problem will be to get someone to insure you to ride your own bike - not going to be easy these days; not impossible but almost certainly very expensive for a short period of time.

I'm not 100% sure where to look about hiring a SWing either, one of the major cities in UK would probably be the place to start i.e London or Birmingham although you are far more likely to be offered either a sports bike or a Harley LOL drunken

Hi papa johns
I agree with Skippy, it would be easier and a great deal cheaper to hire a bike in the UK. Honda touring bikes with the panniers and boxes are between £350 and £400 per week. I have had a quick look but haven’t seen a Silver Wing yet.
