I travel to europe on occasion which lends the opportunity to see scooters that people in the states never see. There is a much greater variety of scooter there because fuel prices are a lot higher there than in the USA. I have many scooter pics from past travels but one in particular wont leave my head. It is the one in the pics below taken in Madrid, Spain in Oct 2010. It is made by Gilera and the name of it is Nexxus.

Friends who have owned them have found them very good and sporty.

They are not as comfortable as 'conventional' maxis: harder ride, less protection, minimal storage space but are less prone to the niggling electrical faults than the X9s they are akin to and are quicker off the mark.

The Mk1 was thought to be better-looking than the Mk2.

Agree Mike, the Nexus is a really looker of a machine with performance to match.

It was high on my wish list when deciding to 'up' engine size. That and the TMax!!!

What won it over was the dependability of the Honda marque and the storage. The 'Wing' took a while to adapt to but adapt I did and never regretted the transition.

I like Moto Guzzi's, they all emloy that "transverse" engine placement. They are so cool and have a very pleasant exhaust note.

While this is true of current Guzzi's, not ALL are. The very early were horizontal fore and aft singles. Along the way, they built a V8 race bike.

is a very interesting read.

The first image is a Gilera Nexus 500ie (taken at the Sydney Motorcycle Show in 2008). This was a firm favourite but stopped being made/imported by the time I was looking to actually buy a scooter. These are VERY good, quite sporty but no longer made.

This is a picture of a mate's Moto Guzi Nevada (750cc Italian Cruiser) which is also a good bike, in this case spoilt by my mate's constant tweeking and fiddling.

Also in the photo above is my much missed and loved Honda CB900F (919 in the USA); what a great bike, I should have persevered with the aches and pains Rolling Eyes

Peter
