Since it was on-and-off rainy today I spent the day painting a couple of old helmets I don't use very often.

After fashioning a makeshift paint booth and a lazy-susan I set out to paint a couple. I used regular masking tape to cover the openings and do my stripes. The 97 cent stuff worked perfectly, so I'm glad I didn't get the $7 stuff instead.

I tried the Krylon "fusion" paint made for plastic and liked it a lot. It dried very quickly making multiple coats a breeze. On one helmet I put about 5 coats of dark blue and after it dried a couple of hours I applied a silver stripe.

After seeing the video from the Shoei guy saying that as long as the paint process didn't use an oven bake that it was perfectly safe to paint your helmets, I had a great deal more confidence.

I still need some clear coat to finish the job, but when they are done I will post some pictures.

It was quite a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Do you get buzz from wearing the helmet?

Crap, I just realized they are way too close to Dallas Cowboys colors. If I had done it the opposite and put a big blue star....

And I'm a Redskins fan!
