| I was riding my VT1100 T yesterday. I was on one of my favorite roads and returning home. I had got off the ferry in fairly busy traffic: holiday weekend and the start of cottage season. I was cresting a hill on the two lane highway when I saw a deer start across the busy highway. In the next split second I heard a loud crack and saw the deer flying off into the woods. I was still on my bike, rolling along and it occurred to me that I should pull over. I did so in he next 30 yards or so. I had put plexiglass panels on my crash guards to keep the wind off my feet. The right one was shattered and that was the loud crack I had heard on impact. No other mark on the bike anywhere or on me. The deer had crossed from the left side and would have safely crossed but for a millimeter or two. I was lucky by those same millimeters. In a flash, I had remembered reading about staying in control and not trying to avoid the inevitable. My bike has a Jesus fish on the right hard bag: I am glad that HE was riding with me. Jay. |

| Happy to hear that you dodged the bullet Jay. Starting the riding season with a deer strike would suck eggs in anyone's religion. |

| I always hope that the Holy Spirit will guide my 'footsteps' so that Jesus won't have to step in at the last minute .......and yes, I am serious. |

Glad you came to no harm.
Next "Big Brother" will require deer to get fish tattoos.

| A scary moment for you Jay. I too am glad you made out OK.
Better to have Jesus riding with you than that the guardian angel in the Hyundai tv advertisement. That angel fellow doesn't pay attention as closely as does Jesus.
Be safe and thanks for the story ... it will come to mind when many of us are out riding and help us to stay focused and look out for critters --- when we least expect them.

| It's amazing how you remember the smallest bit of wisdom when you need to. One of my instructors for the MSF course gave me the " stay in control" nugget when I was taking the test for my license. He said that the examiner is looking for one thing first and foremost, and that is that you are in control of your motorcycle. That bit of wisdom flashed in my mind in a split second. I call it divine intervention. Jay. |

| Lucky you that it wasn't worse, those are good words the MSF gave you that and look where you go and go where you look. |

| I am so glad this was not much worse! I pray often while I ride (good time for it I suppose). I have a Soldiers for Jesus sticker on my top box.
In addition, I tend to slow way down when in an area where deer may leap out at me! Too many years in the Pacific Northwest taught me this, the deer were everywhere! The slower you go the more reaction time one has. Especially at dawn and dusk... |

| I'm not Mr. Religious by any means but I always say a prayer each time I get on my SWing, or 74 CB 750, for His blessings and protection. |
