Thanks for the welcome.
I don't have a bike at all,but i'm thinking about a scooter, but it must be passenger friendly,i'm old,so not interested in performance,i originally looked at a Burgman 650,i made a post on another forum & the Silverwing was recommended by a few people,so i joined the forum.
I'm starting to think that a mid-sized 400cc would be enough for me & my wife, but the Silverwing looks like a good 2 up bike.

I'd look at total weight expected at max then find whether a 400 or 600 would be best suited for you. This 600 I have for what I need fits the bill very well.

Graham G,

Thanks for the introduction. We have a lot of members who have ridden and ride different scooters. It says Silver Wing 600, but there is a lot of information here. Being experienced (not old) is not a requirement. Enjoy the forum. We are happy to have you.

Welcome Graham G. Heck, I'm OLD too and they have welcomed me here with open arms. Or should I say "open comments"?

I have an 08 SWing with just over 22,000 miles on it and am very happy with it. I ride with a group of bikers who ride "real" motorcycles and it sure surprises them when I keep up with them with no problems at all.

Here's a pic of mine in my messy garage. Smile

Welcome Graham G. I live in BOLTON just down the road from you. What you buy to ride depends on what you are used to riding and how tall you are, how fit you are, etc. I have only had Maxi scooters for the last 6years, having previously ridden motorcycles for the last 50yrs. I am on my second Silverwing 600,having done 40,000mls on my last one in 4yrs. I also run a Burgman 400 that is 15 yrs old now but i enjoy riding it and maintaining it. Smile

welcome  Graham welcome to the best Silverwing forum on the web. Old Limey hit the nail on the head, you need to find what fits you. For ME the Silverwing is the perfect bike. I've been through a few scooters and the Silverwing just fits, physically and mentally better than all the rest.
If you are looking forward to learning about the Silverwing you'll find you can do anything you need or want with the service manual and help from this forum.

I add the paragraph below for most new members because there's a lot of information in the links and may save you some work.
Here are some links(3 below in blue)that will help you learn a lot about your Silverwing. If you can't find what you need in the links below the search on this forum works good, and if you still need help just ask and someone will do what they can to answer your questions.

Best thing is first to do a bit of 'searching' on the forum.
Next, have a glance through the various sections and then ask questions.
Most of the answers are here although we know it can be a bit lonely just reading them and doing what it says, rather than chatting about them. Wink

frustrated I apologize for hijacking this thread with this long post but Graham you asked and it's your thread.

Cheers,Graham.
I had a 2008 Silverwing without ABS with 55,000 miles on it and found a 2007 Silverwing with ABS and only 3,500 miles on it at a good price so I bought it for the added safety of the ABS. I figured I would use the 08 for my long rides on the weekends and the 07 around town.
Then my local scooter shop bought a 2008 with ABS at an online auction cheap because of unknown mileage and no power.
I was there when they delivered it. We pulled the left rear panel and the main fuse was blown . After putting a new fuse in, the Wing started immediately and only had 51 miles on it. He offered it to me for a low price. I told him I didn't have room for it or need for it. He offered to sell my old 08 on consignment at his shop so I wouldn't have to worry about not having room and he said the mileage I ride I needed the one with 51 miles on it more than I needed one with 55,000 miles on it. I stood strong and said no.
Later that night I thought about the difference in cash between what I may get for my "old" 08 and the low price offer of the "new" 08. How could I go wrong?  Rolling Eyes  By the next morning I couldn't wait to get to the shop before someone else saw it.

I have let a few friends that were here on vacation ride one with me riding one, but the truth is I'm addicted to vehicles. Embarassed
I have four cars, six scooters and a six speed electric trike and I live alone.

Welcome Graham G. May I call you Graham? I don't think you could go wrong with the 600. The difference in weight isn't all that much more than the 400 but the greater power is nice to have.
