Gearing questions

Is there a good tutorial somewhere on gearing? What the parts are, what the changes in weights do, etc.? Preferably the reader's digest version.

Dr Pulley did a video if i recall, on you tube, showing how the variator works and the advantage of using thier pulleys as opposed to the stock rollers.
