| I wonder if anyone would recognise this statue... If you do: do you know where it is? (self-made photograph, not 'borrowed' from internet)

| The People need to know, Thank you for posting this picture. Take a good look America. They, the US government, yes our government, is going to be destroying it soon....and everything it stands for. UN's Agenda 21 is being implemented here also. Look it up on the internet while you still have the internet. |

| I suspect that photo was taken in France, and that is the 'sister' to what we here in the US know as "Lady Liberty", the "Statue of Liberty". Lest anyone forget, that statue which resides in New York harbor was a gift to the US from France. |

| It is indeed a replica in Northern France. I came across it on a ride from Lille to Calais. Can you imagine my surprise to find myself looking up this world-famous statue, in a former coal-mine villeage. As you can see the city is called Cambrin, and the statue is in honour of the French victims of war(s). I had to make three shots and merge them together -in a kind of 'panorama' effect- to get this result. Grotere kaart weergevenThere is a list of replicas on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replicas_of_the_Statue_of_Liberty the Cambrin replica is not on this list. However it is listed on the French Wiki page. |

| Sorry...I did not mean to wake you.
All need to check this out. Chances are it's in your community NOW!!!
All of the law abiding gun owners in the UK have just turned in there guns under UN Agenda 21 and that is to the "new world order", That's what the UN called it, and it's just plane Communism. The crime rate shot up in the UK, after they did this.
They call it "Sustainable or Sustainability" and make it sound like paradise on earth. Don't buy into it until you read what it's about and how they force it on you and the rest of the world.
First, Martial Law then the guns go, then your freedoms, then they take your homes and land and all your possessions then your lives.

Please read about it...it's here NOW!!!
This is the last time I will speak of it, Good luck. |

| I remember I couldn't buy ammunition for my .280 ACP in 2008 because all the manufacturers were producing 9mm ammo as fast as they possibly could and still couldn't keep up with demand. I went to a gun show to try and find some ammo to shoot targets with and they wanted $100 for what would normally cost me $15.
All for nothing. There was never any law passed, never a bill drafted, never an attempt to change handgun ownership laws in the slightest way.
If I were a manufacturer of ammo and firearms, I would put the rumors out there myself, because they must have experienced tremendous sales in those first couple of years.
Paranoia is GOOD BUSINESS these days. |

The vast majority of Brits don't own guns and ownership is strictly controlled. You're also talking crap about gun owners handing them in and crime rates shooting up. I used to live in Cumbria where in June 2010 a deranged gun owner murdered his brother and a local taxi driver he held grudges against, then went on a killing spree shooting dead another 10 random victims. He killed two of them within a few minutes walk from my house in my old home town, and later turned the gun on himself in a remote Lake District valley. You don't need them mate, the West was won years ago. |

| I'm a competitive Bullseye shooter and own eight handguns, two rifles and a shotgun. I've owned a wide variety of firearms for 60 years after getting a .22LR rifle for Christmas when I was ten. I'm not worrying about anyone taking any of my firearms away from me laws notwithstanding. They'll have to change the US Constitution before I'd even think about it. But until then the founders stated that I have a RIGHT, not a privilege to possess firearms. I have carried a firearm both concealed and open for over 40 years and for some reason haven't shot anyone. I have deterred two attempted robberies of myself in that time however. I really don't care how they do things in other countries, they can go their way and we can go ours. I live here because I believe that up to now we have the best country in the world to live in. I'm not so sure my grandchildren will enjoy the freedom that I have had though. |

| I also just want to correct the point about the UK. It felt mean and pathetic to remove the legally owned firearms from law abiding enthusiasts who kept guns for competitions etc. It was a knee jerk reaction to a few awful but isolated incidents in the UK over the years.
These incidents haven't stopped since the ban because anyone with a mind to do so can still obtain firearms illegally. Take Meldrews point about the gunman in Cumbria
What I can't accept is that our crime rate has gone up at all due to the ban on guns as the vast majority of UK citizens have never so much as held a gun let alone fired one or own one. If our crime rate has gone up its more to do with cut backs including thepolice numbers and general ills with our legal system and society in general. Nothing to do with guns.

| The YouTube clip that Dennis posted a link for was also confusing, the hunting ban it refers to was nothing to do with gun control. It was about using packs of hounds to hunt foxes. Fox hunting had a big following in rural communities, in Cumbria it was done on foot with farmers and ruddy faced country types following the hounds and then getting full of beer and tatie pot back at the pub. (Tatie pot is a traditional Cumberland dish of layers of potatoes, Herdwick mutton, onions, and black pudding cooked in an oven and traditionally served with picked red cabbage).
In other English counties it was more of an elitist upper class activity with toffs in red jackets mounted on horses galloping around the countryside with packs of hounds chasing the fox with little regard for anything or anyone outside their own posh circles. I'd say the vast majority of the population didn't give a toss about fox hunting with hounds, but when the ban became law they were more than happy to see a bunch of plum voiced snobs and toffs having their fun spoiled. |

| One interesting statistic is the reduction in muggings and robbery in US states that have more liberal gun laws. Florida was one of the earliest states to allow concealed carry and after that was passed their incidents of robbery and mugging dropped considerably. The incidents of gun caused homicides did not rise as predicted either. Other states that have followed suit have seen similar results, the great bloodbath that was predicted didn't ensue. Illinois is a state that bars citizens in every way it can from owning and carrying a firearm. Chicago's homicide rate from firearms leads the nation as it also does in assaults and robbery. Coincidence? I doubt it. I don't fear any of my neighbors who either own or carry firearms, I do have concern about gang bangers who do carry. Laws preventing firearm ownership only effect people who weren't going to commit crimes anyway the other types are already criminal and don't worry about an illegal gun. |
