PostSubject: Heated grip wiring   Heated grip wiring I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 01, 2011 3:43 pm

I like having Oxford heated wrap arounds on my bikes and will be fitting the wiring next week on the Swing, time permitting. The accessory socket fitted by Honda is a piddling 1amp thing, fit only for a phone charger or a GPS so I need "MORE POWER"

I assumed that I would need to bring a decent supply in from the battery, then I read on another forum that the Swing already has a connection in the loom for grips!! Yee hah!

But where is it?? I have scoured the web looking for a pointer, but with no joy so far. Can anyone help me please?

Hi Steve, How many amps does the grips (combined) draw?

As I recall, about 2.5amps, obviously a bit more load if I have a GPS attached too Smile The socket on the Swing is 1amp, a bit pathetic really...

Hi Steve,

OK...I'm going to plug my own plug. Have you read this:

Just might get the job done for ya.

I had seen your post Dennis, but I thought that your comment about low power suggested it was going to be only a 1-2 amp take off, similiar to that in the glove box.. When I saw mention of a tap into the loom for grips, I assumed that would have a 4-5amp load potential.

I may well be wrong though, what power do the honda grips want I wonder?

Hi Steve,

Will you have your grip warmers on high all the time or do they have a variable temp setting? Higher the temp setting the more the voltage draw.

Just a thought. sunny

Cheap 'n cheerful, 2 level control. It may well be that the socket will give mopre than the 1 amp stated on the sticker, BUT...... I have seen overcooked electrics before Sad

Well it looks like running a wire from your battery is what will give you piece of mined. Don't forget to install a fuse for this new wire and a relay.

True, but IF there is actually a plug in the wiring loom for fitting grips, it would seem daft for me to do this Smile

I have put a fused 12v power socket in the underseat area for powering compressors and the like, but I would like a higher power outlet up front too and if I don't have to run a twin cable from the battery, I am always keen on an easy life Dennis! Wink

Well, I had a close look at a wiring diagram today, but I am blowed if I can see a point in the loom, but that may well just be me.

I guess in the absence of a definitive confirmation of a power point being available, I will run a twin core lead to the front of the bike instead Smile Thanks for the help Dennis" sunny
