| Hello everyone I recently purchased a 2012 model with 13k miles. I moved from Texas to the Tampa Florida area 2 years ago and realized right quick they don't have winters in south Florida so I started out with a Yamaha Majesty 400 putting 10k miles on it but recently decided to take the long road to Oklahoma on a motorcycle one more time while I can so that's why I got the Silverwing. I raised 5 sons on a farm in Southern Oklahoma and thought I'd go see family next spring. Actually the Silverwing I bought is the one you see on that Silverwing Facebook group that's public. Coincidentally the previous owner lived in Ruskin where I live now but he passed away and somehow a guy in Ft Meyers had so I brought it back to it's home. I've looked through a lot of the maintenance and performance improvements on this site and have some questions ( maybe lots of questions). I did a lot of variator/ clutch tuning on the Majesty and have parts ordered for the Silverwing Anyways I'll be getting in more detail soon I am 68yrs old and a covid survivor/ retired Kent Eubanks Ruskin Florida |

| Hi Kent and Welcome to the BEST SWing forum around. Have you checked with the person you got it from to see if there's any service records? If you're planning of a trip that long it would be good to know the mileage on the drive belt. If I remember right Honda recommends changing to belt every 16,000 miles. The "SEARCH" box at the top left is always your friend but sometimes takes a bit of getting use to. Asking questions is always a good idea also. There's lots of people here ready and willing to help. The SWing is a very nice scooter! I have an 08 SWing that I hd converter over to a trike a few years back with NO regrets. It's the Motor Trike Kit and here's a photo of it. |

| Hi Kent, Welcome. This forum has a wealth of saved information. Whatever you think of has probably been discussed in the past. Use that search box. I did when I first got here, many years ago. I haven't posted hardly at all, especially lately. I sold my Silverwing in 2020. Best investment I ever made was putting a Givi windshield on the Silverwing Bill P. Carrollton, Tx |

| I do have a new mallosi belt, white contra spring, rollers and dr pulley slides coming this week. The Majesty performance greatly improved when I tuned it similarly. It had a Summitomo 165 70 13 heavy duty car tire mounted and aired to 36 and also had OE sized City 2 on front that had flat spotted so it was crazy crazy handling till I replaced them myself with Pirelli angels which were butter smooth on Yamaha . It was a big improvement but now trying to figure out a vibration issue that is pretty weird . I have to keep a close eye on rear tire because if you don't get valve core a cap extra tight it will vibrate loose and leave you stranded. I just got back from 8 ball tire with the glass bead balancing trick installed and they informed me both tires were not that bad when they checked them before the beads were put in. I can feel a buzz in handle bars that really smooth out 45 mph upto 70 then comes back maybe a bit stronger. Is that normal? Yamaha is smooth as glass anytime, any speed up to WOT 90 or so on interstate. Took cover of to check belt and compared to Yamaha had quite a bit more slack measuring 27mm or less the best I could figure out according to service manual directions. I'll know more later this week. I've read other places some people put a tad longer belt than stock to gain top end causing it or more frightening is when I got it home checking the engine oil it was way overfull which I calculated the previous or seller put 3 qts in a 2.3 qt oil change perhaps jacking the counter balances but not very likely if that was so, it doesn't smoke and uses no oil or leaks andI don't think it could hold up to top speed runs down the interstate lately. Oil change was super clean too. If there is anyone on this group in Tampa area maybe be willing to meet up and swap bikes with me for 10 minutes and that would tell me a lot. Sorry for the long post but the weird vibration issue has got to be solved before the long road next spring |

| Is the vibration only at certain speeds, or when acceleration…or something else? I’m chasing down what I call a “buzz”. How many miles on your? |

| Silverwing now has 14k miles and the buzz is felt in handlebars and floorboard up to around 50 mph then it's a pretty enjoyable ride up to around 75. Pullies and or belt has more noise than my Majesty which is smooth as silk from dead stop to top end. Acceleration on Silverwing from red lights is when it's probably maximum buzz. I really think it will be in the belt which not knowing the history needs replacement and appears more worn and looser than the Majesty. I'll be replacing Majesty belt too before sale it measures under 28mm and I have rode it like I stole it . The best I could measure on Silverwing was maybe 27mm at the very most

| As rider with 100,000 miles experience with 2 new ones---first remember, it is a scooter! Drive llne needs no changes---Belts only OEM really work, I used 15,000 miles as change point--never walked, carry old belt as spare. Wheels and tires, use scooter tires in proper size! Car tires not good if you want to corner, rim beads are different. Balance----I have found "Ride On" works with over 400,000 scooter miles. Not cheap Note most bike/scooter shops cannot or do not balance scooter tires and wheels.
Get bike on new scooter tires,balanced---ride at least 10,000 miles before any changes are made necessary or not.
Best tips: 1. Givi adjustable windshield most comfortable and controls buffeting best. 2. Givi luggage rack and box work best for carrying junk. Silverwing is best when ridden as big/heavy scooter--works pretty well! and now remember it is old bike. |

| Coincidentally the seller through in a practically new adjustable Givi. It's my understanding Givi only makes the 214 which is what is on it now and the adjustable one. It also had a trunk that had the bottom cracked out so I replaced it with a 60$ special of ebay that looks and works good |

| Congratulations on your Silver Wing! The scoots have a tendency to a bit of vibration in the 30-40 MPH range. Mine got a bit better with 28g DR Sliders. At cruising mine is butter smooth, I just completed a 640 mile trip to and around Death Valley and it got better the more I rode it. First multi day trip is several years! Good luck. |

| A belated welcome to the forum 56okie. The vibration thing is prone to lots of causes. There's a lot of plastic to vibrate for a start. Over the years I have found lots of missing or broken 'clips' which have been damaged by previous owners. I have dealt with all of them and my SW still rattles a little bit when it's cold. After warm-up the noises tend to stop.
I'm running OEM parts having tried different Dr Pulley sliders and lighter weight rollers. The vibration simply moved around the rev-band so back to OEM.
If safety allows, I check my mirrors to get an idea of the amount of vibration and always have a clear image of what's behind so it can't be that bad. Some people get round this issue by 'gunning-it' on take off and it works. The term 'ride it like you stole it' doesn't seem to upset the SW.
I guess my point is; don't fret too much about it.

| My 2012 Silverwing had some vibration when I got it 4 yrs ago, balancing tires took care of most of it, the other source of harmonic vibration is caused by long drive belt oscillating or "Belt Slap", belt actually hits the case at certain rpms/mph, kinda accepted/normal/nature of the beast. Keeping the CVT area dust free and "Fully Servicing" the rear pulley assy., helps a lot, also installing a new belt, slightly scuffing pulley faces with green Scotch Brite also helps. Installing the Malossi white spring virtually eliminated the issue.

| BTW, IME, with the white spring, for long distance use OEM rollers or 28gr DRP sliders work great, for livier in town use 26gr DRP are better. Either DRP choice will increase fuel economy at high speed.
I got 26gr installed, love it. |

| I do have the white spring coming today and 28gr mallosi rollers. I found the DRP rollers after I had already ordered the mallosi. The DRPs works great in my Majesty . My mpg is kinda low , maybe 40 at best hoping new stuff in drive will change that. Driven pulley is tore down on the workbench waiting for UPS, clutch had very slight wear if any but did look glazed |
