Belt Squeek Empty
PostSubject: Belt Squeek   Belt Squeek I_icon_minitimeThu Dec 05, 2024 6:17 pm

My barn find 08, with 977 miles; There is a short squeak, like two short squeaks when I first accelerate, coming from the drive area.

I pulled the original belt off today, with the intent to change it. Looked fine, seemed pretty supple and no apparent cracks  or defects.

Anyway, the replacement Bando I received was the wrong size..(about 3/8” shorter) than the original, so I put the old one back on. Still have that little squeak.

Anyone ever experience this?

First OEM belts work best! To get noise out, simply run engine up against brakes for 5-10 seconds. Noise stays away for quite a while.

I just gotta ask this, sorry.

Did you try to fit the replacement bando?
Also, did you consider the old belt may have stretched by 3/8" at least considering its probable age.

Food for thought.

I tried to fit it, and that is when I realized it was short. Pretty sure those belts will not stretch that much in 900 miles.

Got a belt coming from the dealer.

Less than 1k in 16 years? Bloody hell, how does that happen 😳
As for your squeak I would have a look at the clutch. Those clutch blocks are meant to swing smoothly out and engage the drum, after that many years of inactivity they might need a little love. It's an easy job, just one more bolt once you've got the belt off.

Good point about the clutch. I’ll check it when the new belt comes in.

The scooter was a “barn find”.
