Hi every one !

Yesterday, I want for a ride and short cut in dirt road  and a couples other times to... (there was alot of dirt road dust).

Coming back home,  the clutch start to squeal when accelarate from a stop or trafic light.  This was new to me. I bought the scoot (2009) last autom with only 16,000 kilometers on it since this spring took a couple other ride and never heard anything like this before.

I made a little  and simple research here on the site and found a tutorial regarding squeal... and this morning did the job mentionned in it. remove covers, clutch and clean all of the dirt and there was alot for 16,000 kilometers bike.... (greased the needle bearing in the same time)

According to you guy's (guru of SW) is this something normal and will it have alot of dirt in the clutch every time I will go for dirt road ?

I have alot of experience myself on motorcycle but it's only my 2nd scooter so need a real answer....

Thank's  in advance for your answer guy's
Michel thumbs up

I did/do. Just go slow and look where you are going. Scooter not best in dirt, I never worry about dirt being sucked in......there are filters

From what I've seen of the arrangement, air is drawn in by the vanes on the drive pulley and pushed back out of the belt case by the driven pulley. There is (or should be) a foam filter element on the intake, if that was absent I can understand why a lot more dust would end up in the area. Maybe yours is MIA Michel?

What color was the dirt? Black like belt or color of road? Filter in belt case won't stop fine road dust it's not like an engine type filter. Filter could be missing. Is it the original belt? Clutch noise is a common thing and there is some shoe dust in the drum just from wear.

Dirt was from road not black at all... and after my little ride on that dirt road I went straight back home. So the fan did'nt have time to pull/puch enough air inside to get that dirt out of the clutch housin. The dirt was almost all in the drum so the clutch pad had a hard time to make it's job properly.

I am use to ride dirt road with my old 1990 Beemer R100GS Paris Dakar white/red ....for the past 21 years... that I will put up for sale in a couple days....

So after all that said, air circulation did'nt have time to do his job to push that dirt out of the drum... I now really think this was the main thing !!!

Maybe a better home made filter will help. Cloth with some K+N filter oil to trap most of dust. Problem is it's low to road and front tire kicks up the dirt. Fan in front is just to keep the belt cool not to keep it clean dirt sticks to everything once it's in there.

I'm an retired dirt rider Suzuki PE 175, RMX 250 a great bike. Yamaha WR 426, Honda XR650L so much fun.
