| Hi From New Zealand Silverwing fans.
I have just bought a 2001 400 cc sight unseen via auction.
It runs well great fun to ride.
I just found the water reservoir for the radiator. It was empty, zero fluid.
I filled it with water (I’ll replace with coolant later) no leaks. I ran it for 5 or 6 min and it didn’t over heat. The radiator didn’t warm up ?
Does the radiator get hot? How do you test the water pump? Should I. Be concerned?
Cheers Gary |

| Hello Gary
Have you filled the radiator? The radiator cap is located by removing the right cubby pocket and looking underneath there and toward the center of the bike. You look down in that cubby space to locate the coolant reservoir. But you already know that by now.

| Ok, I filled the radiator with water, it took a litre or so. The fluid is green so there was some coolant left. I let run for 20 min and the water warmed up. I’ll get some new coolant and drain the radiator.
Cheers |

| Easy way of draining the coolant is to remove hose down at oil cooler no need to remove lower panel to access water pump bolt. Don't over tighten clamp. System can get air bound . Run it and watch temp. gauge should never get above 3 Bars. halfway if it does shut it off WAIT a bit . Recheck at cap. |

Cheers It's a good warm up when the fan comes on, did it come on when you ran it last? |

| If the reservoir and the radiator were low in fluid then you may either have a leak (probably at a hose clamp) or possibly the radiator cap can't hold pressure and needs to be replaced. If the cooling system can't pressurise it can create steam which blows coolant out of the radiator circuit and can also push coolant out of the reservoir overflow. Another possibility is the small hose connecting to the reservoir, if that gets a hole it prevents coolant being drawn back when the radiator cools off so you get a lower level in the radiator. |

| Terry you might want to turn your avatar over. Here in the Northern Hemisphere it appears upside down. Perhaps you could split it so that one side would be upright in either hemisphere.

| 3 bars is normal 4 is not. Check level and refill if needed. Let it run may take 10 minutes or more just at idle before fan comes on. Fan will come on after it hits 3 bars may take a little longer after that. edit.

Intended as humor Well, dang! It looks alright to me, but I did notice all the text from everywhere else was upside down. |

| It stands to reason Terry Smith that it would look upside down to those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. |
