Belt Slapping Empty
PostSubject: Belt Slapping   Belt Slapping I_icon_minitimeTue Aug 15, 2017 2:01 pm

Even before I put the trike kit on I started to get a belt slap at normal speeds, I would have to slightly increase the accelerator or decrease to get it to stop . I had my belt changed about 1000 miles ago, by Honda...this had been happening BEFORE belt change...any thoughts?

Belt Slapping Empty
PostSubject: Re: Belt Slapping   Belt Slapping I_icon_minitimeTue Aug 15, 2017 5:00 pm

Seems to be normal....but not on all rubber band drive scooters----my present, 2013 leftover, now 45,000 miles has done it all its life, at 40mph, now on 3rd or 4th OEM belt. My first Helix (1990) called Fusion in Japan did it after long highway run....big noise. My first new
SilverWing (2009) had rear clutch chatter its whole 45,000 mile life with me----regardless of fixes/cleaning

Now after 9 maxi-scooter and 400,000 miles just normal. Even with first Helix, I realized the belt is the weakest link.

And now asking drive line, in your case, with trike, doing what it was never designed to do.

Belt breakage with solo SilverWing is not common, sticking to OEM belts and Honda recommended change intervals----In all my rubber band drive miles, only one broken belt Helix---- butnew Burgman 400 at 20,000 miles----complete rear clutch came apart, eating everything in its path, including belt. I like riding under warranty.

I always carry spare belt
Suzuki warranty paid for parts and repairs.

My Daelm 125 scooter in Korea, never had belt issues in spite of hard use...open road or city traffic....nor did Vespa Chao when I lived in Italy.

PostSubject: Thanks   Belt Slapping I_icon_minitimeTue Aug 15, 2017 5:24 pm

Thank you John, that is good to know... I to had aBurgman 400 which busted a belt after Tail of the Dragon, which caused me to have to replace the top end....also having clutch issue's....not a fan, expect it brought me to the Swing....which I love, especially now with the Motor Trike GT3 kit, even though Honda did not design it, Motor Trike did with 3 years or 60,000 mile warrenty....not that it will warenty my Swing....but let's face it....the Swing is bullet proof even with the kit IMO.
