I had a bit of free time this morning before heading to a wedding. I figured I'd take a look at the air filter. No problem getting the fairing off. Everything looks like new underneath. When I opened the air box I got a load of old cat food pellets and animal hair. No chewing though. Could have been mice or squirrel. Air filter looks great: bike's not been ridden hardly at all. Cleaned it all up and put back together.

Mice for sure. Can be very destructive once they eat wires.
I've had problems in past with mice. Give them a little something else to eat, poison.
Be careful how its used if you have pets.

You can not take these little fellas lightly. My sons 1800cc Honda
needed a complete top end tare down including a couple of valves. The critters went through the air cleaner element and when he first started it up last spring it sucked in the debris and caused some valve damage. Howard

When I bought the SWing it had to have the battery recharged at the store. It works great but I noticed that the trunk light doesn't come on when I open the seat. I figure the PO had a drained battery at some point and disconnected the light. Saves me having to do it !
I opened up the variator cover to check the air cleaner, gave it a good shake and tapped out most of the debris and dust. Next job, if it warms up here at all, will be the final drive oil change and coolant change. It has sat most of its 10 years with only 3600 miles on it when I got it. I know the manual says coolant change at 24000 miles or 2 years. I have no idea if it has been done in the past 10 years.

I have also noticed a vibration and noise around the 45-50 mph range. It goes away if I speed up or slow down. I searched and found that several owners report the same noise at constant speeds around the same range. To me it sounds like a roller vibration, and somewhat like the "dieseling" sound from the 650 Burgman.
I am not doing anything at this point, except avoid driving in that speed range. My 2005 was relatively quiet t all speeds, except for the front buzz on take-off.

Could be a bad balanced tire. Live with it till you change the tires as you have a 10 year old bike with tires that only have 3600 miles. Check the age of the tires.

In the 40-50 mph range, noise can be belt slap---my first SilverWing do not have it, Second one from day one, new, had/has slight vibration around 40-42mph. Tire/wheel out of balance entirely different feeling.

Changed the coolant this afternoon. I used a silicate-free coolant from the local Canadian Tire store. Not all brands clearly state that they are silicate-free; so, I took my time and searched out the brand that clearly stated no silicates ! Ran the scoot for a few minutes, no leaks, no more bubbles. Waited for the level in the radiator to drop slightly and capped her off.
Found a broken tab under the rubber mat. But the other one is good and the lower panel feels solid !
Will take it on a ride tomorrow and see if there are any issues.
Thanks for the clear instructions , DaleN.
Jay.
