Will be taking a trip to Canada which will include Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Montreal - looking for any advice on how much Canadian currency I should be taking along - this will be a cruise ship vacation and will have stops in the locations listed above. Maybe this is a non-issue and just should use my credit cards and US currency but open to any thoughts on this. Thanks to all.

Unlike the way we here in the US accommodate our Canadian visitors, all of the places I've been in Canada readily accept US Dollars --especially the more touristy locations. However be aware that the merchants will probably exchange at a dollar-for-dollar rate and you'll get Canadian Dollars and coins as change. After you return home with a pocket full of coins & bills you'll find that Money Exchanges won't handle the coins. So either spend the loose change first or possibly there will be an Exchange on the ship --which may or may not accept loose change for exchange. Something to ask your travel agent.

Enjoy your trip, Rick. Go for the "duck in a can" and poutine in Montreal.

Tim

Having spent over 40 years living overseas....and used to two or more currencies.

Recent trip to Canada/NS----I exchanged no money, used VISA card (with chip) for everything and had no problems----previous trips same in recent years.

Just use your credit card. (Visa,Mastercard)

If you use US currency you will not get fair exchange at any merchants.

A debit card on interact should work also at a bank or ATM if you want cash.
