I am making a few Central Ram Mounts for the Silverwing. Drilled to fit the "Ram Mount RAM-B-238U Diamond Ball Base", although it can be left blank. The prototype is in the images but the final design will be very similar probably a little shorter on length, the sizes are approximate: width 35mm & thickness 10mm made from aluminium with stainless button head screws. This is probably going to be a one off run, quantity will depend on how much interest there is.
Cost will be £12 plus P&P (about £2-4 in UK - not sure till I get to a post office and check) (UPS are quoting £24 to USA ouch) for the mount , 2x 6mm screws and spacers and 2x 5mm screws to mount the Diamond Ball Base which is NOT included

I purchased this Sat Nav/Phone mount (Waterproof) for only £9.99 inc postage.
I fitted it on my LHS mirror and it fits perfectly.
I hope this will help a lot of riders.

These handlebar phone holders are OK but it's now illegal to use a mobile phone as a sat nav if you're tinkering with it on the move.

As someone who doesn't want a phone mount, receive or make calls, or listen to music inside my helmet I've found it takes time, money, and a lot of messing about to get a decent sat nav/GPS holder set up.

I've had a DennisB handlebar mount for years, it worked OK with my old TomTom Rider sat nav but I first had to first fit a larger RAM ball than the one he supplied with the mount. Then retro fit a Glare Buster shroud to be able to read the TomTom screen in bright sunlight. Also attatch a security cord to secure the TomTom in it's rather flimsy holder. The basic set up made it very difficult to read any additional info off the sat nav, so came expense experimenting with the various sized RAM arms to bring the screen closer into view, and also RAM arm lock to prevent an opportunist thief stealing the unit.

When I later replaced the TomTom with a Garmin Zūmo, it was another sat nav supplied with a holder sadly lacking in security, so I bought an expensive locking cradle for it from Touratech. It's the dogs doo-dahs and very well made, but the combination of sat nav, Garmin holder, Touratech cradle, and a long locking RAM arm weighs over 2lbs and that combined weight can make the lot pivot lardownwards on the RAM ball on Dennis's sat nav mount. So I now support the weight with a fine bungee run from each side of the handlebars, cradling the cradle. I no longer need a Glare Buster with the Garmin as the screen automatically adjusts to changing light levels.

I also had a short lived trial using a RAM brake reservoir mount using the Garmin/Touratech set up, and there's too much weight there for the reservoir screws to hold. They loosen easily and slacken off the lid of the reservoir. After this happened few times I got sick of it and cobbled up a temporary fix using electrical tape and cable/zip ties.

Thanks for the information Meldrew , very much appreciated it.
I have only used this for a few weeks so I will see how long it lasts, I only use it for my Sat Nav which is a TomTom 42.

Thanks again Meldrew

Keep it simple with http://www.rammount.com/activity/motorcycle-bases#bolthead-adapter! and with the longer holder you keep the gps better in your sight and you´re still able to see the your "cockpit".

Hi Leena, I'd say your simple mount is the very essence of Nordic simplicity style and design  thumbs up Maybe you could explain to Mr G on another current topic what Scandinavian or Finnish riders do to keep their motorcycle/scooter batteries in condition through your long, dark winter months.

Hello mate, what you're looking at on Leena's scoot is the widely available RAM B-272 U base or mirror stem mount. It has a 9mm hole and a 1” RAM ball.

I have one centrally mounted on my Forza, although it's only on view when I fit a RAM arm to take my Garmin Zūmo sat nav holder. The rest of the time there's a removable grey plastic cover hiding it.

As a traveller on just two wheels I've always been a bit OCD about symmetry...yeah, weird I know. I'm still figuring out how to get my mobile phone lying sideways in between the handlebars. I don't want it to obscure my view of the 'dashboard' and all the lights...and...I want in central!

I reckon I'll finish up making my own contraption...however, it's not going to keep me awake at night..unlike these pesky cats!
