Still pimping out my silverwing. Ive read a lot of comments on site about leg deflectors. So....I must have them. The only site i found is in the u.k. and they want 210+ shipping cdn. Just waiting to transfer money into paypal account-has anyone found a better source since last the topic was discussed? By better i of course mean cheaper-however I'm not into modifying something to make it work. The new airflow I installed is FANTASTIC-what a difference. Thx for all your help.

A little over GBP 100 in the UK, so broadly the CDN 210 you've been quoted. However, the UK price includes VAT at 20%, but if they are shipped to Canada I believe they can be zero rated, so I think your quote may be a little expensive.
Honda Chiswick usually stock them, but they aren't currently shown on their web site. I'll check the price with them in the morning, and also the VAT position.

I rode down to Honda Chiswick this morning to check it all out.
The leg deflectors are GBP 87.50, plus Value Added Tax at 20% (GBP 17.50) making GBP 105 in total, which is the retail price in the UK.

They tell me that if they ship directly to Canada, they can zero rate the product for VAT purposes, but they will of course charge for shipping.
This would make the price GBP 87.50, plus shipping, plus, I guess, anything you may have to pay locally to import the goods.

If you want to contact them directly to discuss your needs, then their email address is  :-

parts@chiswickhonda.com

You may want to address your note to Ainsley or Andrew. These are the guys I spoke to this morning.

By the time I received my swing knee deflector from the UK ,my total cost delivered to my door was $298.00 Canadian, 4 yrs ago . I would do it all over again . They are worth  it to one with  knees replacement to keep the cold wet rain at bay.

Thanks, saw that and thought that might be them, they integrate pretty well. I noticed on my 05 just keeping the knees in helps a lot but any extra would help more. Planning on a ride tomorrow and might wish I had them for the ride.Oh and stuffing that " vent " in my Givi windshield.

Just an update. Chiswick is telling me there 115 pounds. Not sure (  thru VERY confusing e mails) whether ill get 20% off for canadian shipment. The communication thru e mails is far too rushed, so details are not very clear.

That is confusing. The retail price in the UK is GBP 105 including 20% tax, and zero rating them should reduce that to take the tax off. I'm not sure where the GBP 115 comes from. Could that be a typo I wonder?
I'll go and talk to them again.

Rasherman-thanks. Ive been talking to Andrew. He has my bike details ( VIN no. ) that he requires. Ive been to their web site and cannot find much- including these deflectors and have asked him for the web site for the part/ check-out so I can pay for it. Also asked him if visa/ debit card or paypal is a suitable form of payout.  Questions received no response. Almost ready to just let it go( without the above details-what else is there? ) Appreciate your efforts

Gary, Regarding the supply of leg deflectors, I've been in touch with Chiswick Honda to check out a few things and confirm the ordering and payment process.

The price in the UK is GBP 105 including VAT (not GBP 115)
For shipments to Canada they will zero rate the product for VAT giving a base cost of GBP 87.50
Shipment costs will depend on your exact location so they need your delivery address.
Tinman is correct in that they will only accept Bank to Bank transfers, and they will provide the necessary Bank details.
Once they have all the necessary information they will prepare a quotation giving the cost breakdown including shipment costs.
For your particular set of circumstances there is no on-line ordering process, but if their quote is acceptable to you an e-mail from you is all that is required.

I know they have written to you earlier today so you may already have this information, but as there is no personal data in my note I've posted it to the board in case anybody else is interested.

I had dealt with Honda Chiswick over several years in relation to my car and Silver Wing and have always found them to be reliable.
I hope this helps.

FYI the part # for the "Leg Deflector Set" is 08R82-MCT-800. That may help in tracking down a source for these items. It also appears that these same leg shields also fit some Honda VTX models, c.2001.

As GaryC points out below, David Silver Spares was the original go-to source for these items when ordering from the US.

Deflectors arrived today ( 8 days after ordering. ) Cost in cdn dollars 290. Just from an appearence aspect ,they are a quality product. Part of the reason I decided to go this route is the belief that they would provide a higher re-sale value to my bike. Thats yet to be proven but they look so much better than any alternative I've seen. The only downside is the instructions are similar to the airflow instructions-alllmost useless.

Hi gary c,

how will you go about color matching the deflectors with your bike's color? This month's red SW looks like a good match to me.

Don't think I will. My bike is black and the deflectors are a smoke-black color. At the moment a precise match is not too important.

Before you mount those leg deflectors can you take them down to your local Canadian Tire Store and see in they might come close to matching the configuration of some after market wind deflectors for car and truck side windows. Possibly something will be a close enough shape so that someone could reshape one to fit.

It seems to me that I read a post (not on this forum) where someone had done just that awhile back but the OP never followed up about the source/model of the deflector he used.

I once heard of those same window wind deflectors quite some time ago... maybe three or four years. IIRC they fit pretty decently and worked well. Seems like you'd have to find the right "model" though to fit the same Silver Wing curvature. Maybe go to Weather Tech (advertised in most car books) and on TV. Never did hear where those original deflectors were found. Good Luck.

I went the DJCharles route. I found a piece of plexiglas about the same length as the curvature of the leg deflectors. I made both sides out of that 4" piece and made the curvature with a heat gun. I attached the deflectors to the body with small carpentry corner braces and body moulding screws. I had them on the bike all thru fall, but removed them for storage. Never took any pics, but I will do that next Spring.
They worked great, only about 2" wide but they are at right angle with the body. I noticed my mileage stayed about the same.
Jay.

For the curious- my deflectors are 27" outside, round the bend, length, 22" inside. 3" at widest end, 1" smallest end and 3 3/4" in the middle. A little less than 1/8" thick. Canadian tire only had these in stock ( images? ) Sales said there was little demand to carry more. ( and they were all for super-crew type trucks. Looked to be same type material and thickness ( from a glance thru packaging) Prices ranged from 80-150 ( for chrome). My 2 cents- if you enjoy treasure hunting its     possible you may find something ( probably for a car) at an auto parts dealer. For all the time and effort, they're not going to look as GOOD as the stock ones. For myself, look is just as important as functionality. Good luck-hope this has helped( if you want'em, just buy em )

not having any success attaching a file. if i did what you would have seen is a plastic piece of approx. 40"  in length with only a very slight bend. I'll try to work on my computer skills.

no i should have... BUT its not to hard...

1] remove rubber floor mat and bottom Tupperware
2] use grade 6, 2 inch x 3/4 bolts and nuts lock washers and galvanized 6x14 1/8 sheet metal.
3] carefully use a 3/4 drill bit to drill though tube frame at 2 loc shown in pic. make sure your careful and go though center of tube.
4] carefully bend plate to fit as snug as possible over the tube and drill holes 3/4 in plate to align with holes in frame tube.
5] insert bolts though plate and frame and tighten until frame tube yells.
6] use small self tap screws to afix the plastic that the floor mat mounts to, and replace the bottom tupper where.
7] i used my table saw and a cardboard pattern to cut the mudflap down to where i wanted it, how wide or long is up to you.
8] use long self tap screws to mound mudflap errrrr floor-mat and use black silicone to seal the edges.

I got in touch with them: they won't take the 20% VAT off for overseas sales !!! and the shipping to Canada is about $50.00 with the current exchange rate. For that price, I can buy some beer and wait awhile.

Tommo you're a star! Ive been after some of these for a while. I use a Toccano Urbano cover in the winter but these will be great in the summer.

Part of being a good MC / scooter owner is knowing your limitations, i'm not so good at 'dead center' of tubes, so gonna have to think on that one
thanks for the response though

Thats a great price- less than 1/2 mine from david spears. It looks like from their picture they mounted them on the outside edge of the fairing, whereas I was under the impression that they go on the inside. Can anyone clear this up for me.

gary...........I fitted them to my SWing and they definitely fit on the outside edge of the fairing. They come with a little template but I didn't use it as it's quite easy to line them up then stick them onto the fairing with the very sticky 3M tape that's on them. Then there's just one hole at the top and one at the bottom to drill and push in the small plastic locating/securing pins. The secret to making a good job of it is to offer up the deflectors to the fairing to get an idea where they fit before actually trying to fit them. Then make sure the edges of the fairing are really clean. I used a hairdrier to warm up the fairing plastic and the 3M tape on the deflectors to help them stick nice and securely. Like most 3M type products the longer they are stuck the stronger the bond becomes. You can only really do this once. You can't pull them off and realign them if you make a mistake. I did mine in less than an hour. Mine is a black SWing so the leg deflectors blend in nicely with the rest of the plastic bodywork.

Thx for the heads up. I guess all the other ad hoc types that members have mounted on the inside part got me turned around. I'm clued in to the cleaning aspect- just waiting for the weather to warm up so I can install them ( they recommend temp. to be about 20 C ) Did you drill 3/16" holes before or after you fastened them with the tape?

I had my leg wind deflectors dealer fitted before I took delivery of my Silver Wing. Having had them on for five years now and been out on full day rides in really wet and cold weather at home and abroad I know how effective they are. What they cost was irrelevant when I bought the scooter, I rode home in heavy rain with them fitted and got the immediate benefit. I might have spent months trying to find a set and get in the winning bid on eBay.
