Oil seepage from cover Empty
PostSubject: Oil seepage from cover   Oil seepage from cover I_icon_minitimeSat Sep 10, 2016 4:20 pm

Why wing is seeping oil from the engine cover, left hand side, the cover where the oil fill is located. I noticed some thin strips of the gasket are coming off; also there is an electrical cable running into the cover. Not sure how involved it is to replace - anyone know? I believe it was leaking for quite a while; I bought the wing with 27K on the odometer, original owner changed the oil and filter every 3-4K miles at a Honda dealer. Runs like a top but the seepage is annoying. Fix it or just keep on cleaning it?

It sounds as if the leak is at the Stator cover. I've never known an oil leak to fix itself.

I replaced a bad Stator awhile back and posted a 3 "how to" piece in Maintenance, Tips & Hints. While you won't need to replace the stator you will need to remove the Stator cover and reseal the cover and wire harness grommets with Hondabond or Yamahabond sealant to stop that oil seepage before it gets worse. Check out the "how to" under the subject(s) "Bad Stator" parts 1, 2 & 3.

Call your local dealer/service writer and ask them to quote you a labor rate to "replace the stator". Then get a FSM off eBay and a tube of Honda/Yamahabond and do the job yourself.

I totally agree - I am not mechanically inclined other than oil changes (born with 10 thumbs, you see) so will contact the Honda dealer here to see how much they would charge. Thanks for your advice!

Thanks to all who replied. I went to Beloit Honda and they fixed the oil seepage for under $150. Much less than I anticipated - kudos to them!

That's probably what they charge those who haven't attempted to fix it themselves.

(AMHIK) :lol!: Glad it's fixed and thanks for letting us know.
