Hey guys,

Just wanted to share that I have installed them last night. It was a 2 beer job. Very easy. Took under an hour. The most difficult part was to take out the air compressor from the basement. It is the HF 10 gallon pump. Not very light.
I also did my 600 mile, initial oil change. Put in the Mobile 1, motorcycle 10-40 synthetic oil in her. Also a super easy job. Messy.

First impression from the sliders - the bike seems to be livelier now. It still has a little slack from the get-go, but I definitely feel a much quicker 0-to-60. Maybe even by half a second.

Cheers,
Mad

Mad,

Great job. I think the dr pulley's do a good job and was a great improvement for very little dollars. Do you have anymore mods planned?

Thank you, sir!
I made the running lights bracket today. Sprayed it with bed-liner. It fits well. Poor welding job with the oh-so-weak 90 Amp HF flux welder. But it should hold.
I am still yet to buy/install an aftermarket exhaust. Also will be adding some extra LED's to my Bestem Tbox. That is all for now Smile

Cheers,
Mad

Hi Mad,

One thing I've found with my 90 Amp HF flux welder is to weld something thicker is to grind the edges where they meet with a bit of a bevel. That way when the two pieces come together there is a bit of a valley to weld in. It seems to work better. Also, you can heat the pieces up with a torch so the welder gets better penetration.

Thank you, sir. I haven't used the heating this time, but might do it the next time I weld something thick. Thank you.

Mad,
If you like the 26g sliders, then you will love the 24g. I started with the 26g and ended with the 24g. Have fun riding your new Singer. Ride safely.

I have heard that 24g. sliders make you sacrifice top speed. Is that so?

Sounds like your having fun with modding.
I took my malaguti and did some of the same as the swing.
Out of the box it did 29mph. After New Ignition, exhaust, rollers it topped out at 67mph.
I'm in the process of replacing the belt and what better time to add some pep.
So I almost bought a malossi variator but settled with some malossi 24g rollers.
If Dr. pully sliders do such a great job, I can't wait to see what the 24g. rollers do.

I tried the 21 gr sliders once and it was kind of like the J. Costa but the rpms were just too high where the J. Costa would have lower rpm's. But I have to say that the acceleration was really nice with the 21 gr sliders. I just couldn't handle the higher rpm's at under 50 mph.

Sounds very interesting. Thank you for sharing :-) I look at the Malagutis just now. They seems like such beautiful scoots.

Mad,
I have never checked my top speed on rollers and/or sliders. Here are my MPH vs RPM.

MPH. Rollers. sliders
30. 3500
40 3800. 4000
45 4000. 4100
50 4200. 4300
55 4500. 4500
60. 4800. 4800
65. 5200 5000
70 5600. 5300

Right around 55-60 the RPMs intersect. At 65 MPH and above the sliders slide farther up the variator hence the RPMs are lower at speed compared to the rollers. I would suspect the if the sliders slide farther up the variator, the top end should be faster. Again I have not tried to find my top end speed.

So here is the things I found when tuning my malaguti to get it to peak out at top speeds.
They have a rev limit set in the ignition. So the issue I see with all those readings is that the scoot is capable of tach-ing out at 10,000 rpms. I bought a new CDI ignition for it and the performance was incredible. Wouldn't top speeds be faster if the tach reading could reach the 9000 rpm mark like I did with my malaguti? That's when the sewing machine starts to really sing.

Yes it would. However, because the "CDI" is an integral circuit of the ECU you would need to have your ECU re programed and the RPM limiter bypassed. There aren't any aftermarket ECU available AFAIK.

Oh wouldn't that be sweet if they had programmable ECU's like they do for my VR4.
That would take tuning to a whole new ball game.

Mad,
If you are happy with the 26g sliders, then continue to use them. I just wanted a little more power on acceleration.

Just a thought, but has anybody ever tried to transplant an ECU from a standard with a similar engine configuration?
It would seem that if the crank angle sensor, MAP/MAF sensors, ignition coils, etc. were close, this would be the performance boost that many crave.

No pesky "soft-start", no troublesome rev limiter, and no having to go days without filling the tank...

Just think, you'd also be able to burn up a $120 belt with ease!
