(so as to not hijack another member's different seat modification thread, here's my idea)

A seat modification I've been thinking about is to use a car seat. I know the haters will chime in I'm sure and say things like: Good gawd, you already use a car tire... what's next? a steering wheel? doors? or a convertible top? I've seen a couple different applications to a silverwing but now I can only find a pic of one of those versions. It was not done very well IMO, but it would not look out of place on a bike with a Vetter streamline fairing.
As seen in these first 2 images, the height and width of the back rest would suitably fit a car seat back at least.

The tricky part might be with the seat bottom since a bike seat narrows toward the front to allow ones legs to easily drop to plant feet on the ground. Maybe not so easily done in the seated position with the squared front of a car seat bottom. But getting to a standing position would work, though not as graceful... I could live with that.

(this is the pic of that one car seat version I mentioned in the first paragraph...) YIKES!! It certainly could have (should have?) been done better. (I know I certainly would have done a better job of it)

I would agree as it appears here that it just looks stupid and awful, but with a fairing behind it and something
other than cloth material (leather, or leather looking material perhaps) it would look right... IMO anyway.

Incessantly pushing the edges and not inclined to leave well enough alone. pirat

That Vetter must be the only fairing with doors!
It looks like it should have some rocket thrusters on the back Smile Smile

When I first got into maxi scooters (and they weren't called that then as there was only the Helix) 20 years ago. I used to get a newsletter from the Best Feet Forward Motorcycle Club and in one of the last few issues I remember reading about someone had fitted a Volvo car seat to a Mk1 Yamaha Majesty. It may have been by a British bike journo who contributed to the newsletter, and regularly championed FF style bikes like the Phasar and Quasar designed by the late Malcolm Newell.

There was also reports about Craig Vetter earlier attempts at streamlining, until then I'd always associated Vetter with his Windjammer fairings and saddlebags that featured a lot in Cycle, and Cycle World. I also recall he had been badly injured on one of his streamliners in a collision with a deer, I hope he's now on the mend.

One final thing, I've noticed the word hater used in a couple of posts over the last few days. Usually to describe someone who simply has a different opinion from them. To me using the word hater is right out of order especially on what is a simply a forum for Silver Wing enthusiasts.

You may disagree with with someone, sulk, throw your toys out of the pram, threaten to leave the forum or whatever but no one is hating you, they simply have a different view.

By calling forum members haters you're associating them with the real haters, the scum in videos beheading prisoners in orange jumpsuits, throwing gay men off tall buildings, and blowing innocent people up in Paris, and Brussels etc.

Moderator hat on.
Regarding the 'hater' issue: I did express the view that that was unacceptable on a 'friendly' forum and I trust it won't be repeated. Moderators have access to a 'Delete' button.

I remember the chap who put the Volvo seat on his maxi: his name will come to mind.

My doubt about its safety stems from my own experience with a Utopia backrest.
I found myself leaning against the rest even when cornering, thus upsetting my physical relationship with bike and road. It didn't take me long to learn to detach my back from the rest so I remained more perpendicular to the road.

The bucket seat in the picture above would prevent the rider doing the same.

I add, although some may not agree, that the rider in the picture probably wouldn't notice either way; dainty shoes he's wearing. Wink

I'm almost certain the Volvo seat chap was journo Paul Blezard who's long and comprehensive article on the Honda CN 250 Helix in a copy of ’Grey Bike' magazine convinced me to buy one a year or so later.

A style of shoe I believe is called the Mary Jane, coupled with shaved legs for less wind resistance.

Jeez, but it was meant a bit tongue in cheek. No intention to offend, but rather a funny poke at what often happens when "different" ideas are put forth. No names were cited and the comment went no further than those first couple lines. Was I being unnecessarily defensive? Maybe some... at least that is apparently how some perceived it. It's Friday, chill out, go to the pub after work, have a pint, enjoy it and relax. It's nothing really and wasn't meant to mean much.
