Need immediate help on this one.

Think it is well known that the Givi Adjustable is the best available windshield for the SilverWing BUT....there is still some bothersome spillover of air. I will ride only looking over as I like to see what I might hit.

MY QUESTION: has anybody tried a Laminar Lip or other spoiler to get rid of the sometimes annoying spill over??

I am thinking of trying a Lip----having had 9 maxi-scooters, all having the bother of buffeting---all related to nose being too far from tip of shield. Previous bike experience with Avon, Heinrich,Wixom, HD batwing, CECO.=quiet ride.

I think Meldrew has added spoiler of some sort to his Givi.

Hi john grins el haven't been on for a while as sold silverwing and brought 650 burger and a honda x11 naked blackbird but I used to have a very nice MRA screen from Germany on my silverwing will post pics didn't have much turbulence  as could a just the angle of the deflector,

I have and it would cost you a lot more than another $84, more like $134.95.

It's great to finally see a pic of an MRA Vario screen on a Silverwing.   Looks good I think.

Can you tell us a bit more about how effective you found it, and your height?  

I was taken by the comment of one reviewer (on a seller's website) saying that it was only after fitting the MRA screen to his/her Silverwing that (s)he'd ever heard the engine.

Having just recently bought a 'Wing (this is my first post on the site!) with the standard screen (terrible for wind noise for me at just over 6 feet), I've been eyeing up both the Givi Airflow and the MRA Vario as possible replacements.  The Givi Airflow seems to be well liked on this site, but there doesn't seem to be much published experience of the MRA Vario to compare it with.

I have a MRA Vario Max (Vario = adjustable; Max = larger than the standard Vario screen) on my Pan European ST1100, and while it's a big improvement (for me) on the (non-Airflow) Givi screen it replaced, it's still not brilliant.  I sometimes wonder if a naked bike or tiny screen would be quieter.

Hi sea dog yes the screen is effective  I'm 5 ft 4 so only short but the standard  screen used to give me buffeting. I  also think it looks a lot better than standard just my opinion.Hope you enjoy your new ride might add a silverwing to the stable to this year for the wife

Thanks, John. Maybe I'll try the MRA (I think it might be cheaper than the GIVI in UK, which would help), and report back how I find it to this forum.

That's not going to give the OP John Grinsel the immediate answer he's looking for, though, so hopefully some more replies re laminar lips, etc.

If I may add my 2 cents here, I had the Laminar Lip on my Yamaha Majesty and I loved it. It took some setting up etc...I did a video on it. On my Swing I don't need it, I sit down enough so I don't have those problems like I did with the Majesty, by the way I rode the majesty 2600 miles to Eureka Springs and back with it an it was a huge help....

Laminar Lip---I usually drill and bolt them on. Had one Lip fall off, large bump, Minneapolis/St Paul rush hour---3M stick on---Reflex.

My goal---8 hrs comfort----not being pounded by air/wind, wearing open face helmet. past experience, Vespa with right windshield can be made buffet free. Pacifico Handlebar fairing, with lowers built in, on my Honda XBR500S(same as US GB500 but with dual seat and center stand) provided open face comfort horrible weather on trip to N Cap in Norway.

At Interstate/freeway speeds how far will that 8-hour comfort time take you?

The reason I'm inquiring is that after a mini stroke last July and knee-replacement surgery early this month I realize that my prior, push-the-limit, 12-18 hour LD ride times have changed and I'd like to have some idea of what to expect, plan on, this coming season.

I've got the "going" part down pretty good, it's the stopping part that I never could quite come to terms with.

I'm like "Vader", I had one on my Majesty and really liked it, didn't need one on my SWing, but I do a Laminar Lip now on my Cee Bailey on my CTX700.  The 23" CB was not tall enough so I tried the Laminar Lip, since it worked so well on my Givi on the Majesty, and it really helps out a lot with the CTX700.  I'm not sure if it would do much with the AF on your SWing though, John.

Having had stroke/heart attack 10 & 20 years ago---77this year, VA 40% disabled,bad knees part of it. I can do 400-500 mile days, where once I did 500-600 mile days----secret, every 50 miles or one hour stop and get off bike---been doing this for years, do this in addition to gas/food stops-----Comfortable riding clothes/boots/gloves and helmet that does not drive you nuts.

Any long distance is/can be boring. Stop, take a nap in the grass. Works for me.

Hurrying wears you out. Comfortable bike/scooter works good,too. Buffeting tiring problem for me with SilverWing.

There isn't any secret, you just do what works for you. I find if I'm comfortable I'll ride until I need to refuel which I tend to do around the 150 miles mark. But if I know there's some place where I can get decent food 20 miles either side of the 150 mark I'll do that. Stopping every hour or 50 miles wouldn't work for me simply as I'd find it an annoyance. It used to piss me off riding with blokes that had to regularly stop to have a cigarette, another reason I don't like group riding.

Actually I don't mid stopping randomly, gives me a chance to stretch my legs and also not build up those issues from riding too long...plus it gives me a moment to look around and actually smell the roses.

I was referring to the times I have a full days riding to cover to reach my destination hotel or return to a ferry terminal for an overnight crossing back to the UK. I can and do stretch on the move, keep myself hydrated and fed but not to the extent I'm desperately looking around for the next place to take a 'comfort break'.

Have any of you tried a Wunderlich Wind Deflector? Specifically with the stock shield, their site says it's polycarbonate and if it makes the OEM shield useable as a "windshield" I might give it a go.
I have the Givi tall and it's not the solution I hoped for, PLUS the Givi's are acrylic and I much rather have PC, like the Honda screen is....with plexiglass one stone can ruin your day!

I thought I'd replied to this but it must have been on another forum.

I bought a Laminar Lip for my first Silverwing but didn't get the Laminar 'wings'.

It quickly became clear that they were necessary, much of the draught coming round the sides of the rather narrow stock screen.

I didn't get them as I became aware of the Givi adjustable screen and bought that instead.

I fitted a Wunderlich wind deflector to my Airflow in the summer of 2014 and it works because I have a combination of ideal screen height with the Airflow and angle of wind deflection I can achieve with the wind deflector. I haven't really played around with height and rake that much because I got it right first time just by eye.

After riding behind one for a couple of months before fitting an Airflow, I wouldn't have wasted my money buying a Wunderlich wind deflector to try and improve that useless OE Honda screen.
