Hi all, early November 2015 I bought a January 2014 registered Silver S/wing 600 with 8000 UK miles. The Scottish gent who previously owned her had kept her immaculate and added Givi Airflow screen, heated grips, Givi V47 topbox with built in brake lights, Sat nav mount and also Datatagged her, the Honda dealer carried out 8000 mile service and fully fuelled her for my 127 mile trip home. On route to part ex my Truimph Bonneville America strong winds and heavy rain assisted me in covering all three lanes of the motorway when I only wanted to use one, I was thinking if I'm being blown over all three lanes of the motorway on a very heavy bit of metal it's going to be a lot worse riding a big bit of plastic, how wrong I was as the S/wing was very solid in the storm force wind. Since getting her home I've had a Polini Variator fitted, this has dramatically changed the acceleration too rapid and made city riding a lot more stable, the downsides being my top speed (speedo reading not GPS) has gone down from 115 MPH to 95 MPH and if the throttle is wound regularly she drinks a bit but I've only put one tank of fuel through her so far and once the newness wears off I might be able to slow the right wrist down a little and find her a bit more economical.

Ride safe everyone.

Regards

Geoff

Welcome to the best Silverwing site on the net. Great people and loads of information about your Swing. Peruse the Accessories and Mods section as you get a chance. Lots of great ideas from some pretty inventive riders. The site is chock full of great stuff. You'll be glad you signed on!

G'day and welcome Geoff with the limp. Intrigued to know where in the UK you can ride at 115mph legally? No offense intended mate but I thought the UK limit was 70 mph (motorways). Due to the 'nanny state' mentality in my home state of Victoria if I was nicked doing your equivalents here I'd be hit with 8 demerit points and $760 fine (in excess of 45kmh [28mph] over speed limit). 12 demerit points in any 3 year period is suspension of license. Of course, go to the lawless Northern Territory and there's a couple of sections of the Stuart Hwy that are unlimited but that's a long ride to blow away some cobwebs. Rolling Eyes

In the UK there seems to be this mysterious network of "private roads" where those in the know always seem to do all this 100+ mph illegal speeding when asked.

I've no idea where these private roads are or if they actually exist, the mapping on my Garmin sat nav doesn't show them and an Internet search has revealed nothing either. I've asked some of these throttle jockeys where these fabled roads are and they say nothing.

Most counties in England are festooned with fixed speed cameras on the main roads which makes you paranoid about even venturing above the posted limit. These mysterious private roads that must be miles long, straight, and hazard free obviously don't have them.

Being private roads they don't seem to have any slow moving traffic, road junctions, traffic lights etc either. It seems if you know where these roads are,and with or without the permission or blessing of the private road owner, you just roll up there whenever and whack the throttle open to 3 figure speeds.    scratch   Rolling Eyes

Hi all,

Thanks for the welcome and yes it's not big and not clever to speed but if you feel the need to know what your transport will hit flat out then those secret unlimited roads (yeh right) without speed camera's, bridges or places for police to park i.e Motorways I guess would be one of the best choices. You would think that at over 50 I would grow out of this immaturity but I guess it may be aged 60 for me so 6 young immature years left.

Remember people, It's definitely not big and not clever to speed, well especially over three figures as it usually means a driving ban so if whilst parked up the police casually ask you what speed you've had out of her I would answer with the truth 115 (speedo reading) followed by the little white lie 'whilst on holiday in Germany'

Welcome limpinggeoff, you bought a beaut!

Remember your riding a 4-stroke 600cc engine with stabizliers, she will balance great in the wind and your rpms are much higher than a standard motorcycle, so all SWings drink gas up and over 80mph, but shell always treat you right.

I've had mine (bone stock I think) up to 100, briefly, she didn't seem to like it and neither did I
70-80 though is smooth , effortless, and quiet aside from wind noise
from what other have posted the Give screen will make her even better, do I ever have money to get one

Hey limpinggeoff, welcome to the SWingers forum. Like yourself, I have tested my rides to see what I could get out of them: up to my comfort level, not the bike's top speed. My SWing was up to 140 km/h before I chickened out. I am sure there was more there. It is a very capable machine but I'm quite happy to mosey along at posted speed limits.
Jay.

I have no idea what the top speed is of my Silverwing. As stated the legal limit in the U K is 70m.p.h.  I remember when I was a child always asking people how fast will it go. As an adult I sometimes get asked how fast will it go, I usually say it goes as fast I want.

The Honda 'Book' states the top speed as 115MPH, the figure I quote when bikers and others cast aspersions.

It is not something I'd like to confirm, even on a long 'private' straight. pale

Geoff............Welcome to the forum. I'm not too far from you up here in Northumberland. Haven't been on my SWing since last October due to a couple of health problems but hopefully improving now and can't wait to get out again when the weather improves. My mate Barry also has a SWing and as we're both retired gentlemen we get out together when we can. Might meet up with you one day maybe. Keep the speed down and ENJOY your SWing.

Welcome limpinggeoff from the heart of Nottinghamshire.

I to have had my scoot over the Ton like most of you just to see what you can get out of her, now that I have done it no need to try again but drive in a more leisurely manner befitting my age (until the next time). By the way Meldrew on the A38 heading towards the M1 junction 28,very little traffic and before speed cameras where installed all over the place.

welcome Geoff, I'm a little bit further north than you in central Scotland, a refugee originally from god's own country (that now seems to be occupied by speed cameras and fewer people that were actually born there!). My silver wing is a 08 with 24k, running standard apart from a top box and screen extender, I have a lovely piece of straight road that on a late finish, 8pm, is usually quiet and great for a little exercise every now and again. (usually a quick 95 and back off, like others have said it was still wanting to go. My mpg averages around the mid 50's. Quite like the late finish when its dark, dusk seems to attract deer who delight in running across the road as you drive along.
