Hi All: Hope this finds you well. So, I've been checking out some other forums lately like the NC700x DCT one's. From ones man point of view the Silverwing600.com forum rocks. With the knowledge, friendliness and craziness this site has to offer, considered  it Top Shelf, and to that I salute you all!

I agree! I like this site a whole lot and have learned a lot about my SWing. The members on here aren't too bad either...

I'm glad that after all these years this site has been up that it is still popular with people. It is too bad that Honda doesn't continue to make the SWing or it would be nice if they upgraded the SWing one day. I had mine for 7 years and it was a great bike. But this site has always had some great members on it. I remember when I started this site it was just to store knowledge since the www.maxi-scoots.com & www.silverwing.org site both went down at the same time. So I started this site to try to save some of their info on the SWing.

It just happened to take off quickly and the silverwing.org site is no more. I guess you can still access info but it is shut down to new members and will probably go away one day. But thank you all for making this site the success it is.

You done good Jeff! Even though I no longer have a Silverwing I still enjoy this site. Got a good bunch of people on it. Sometimes my 650GT looks a bit lonesome in the garage, who knows I might find a local SW to provide some company for it one of these days.

Exavid,

How do you like the 650GT and how would you compare it with the Silverwing? I've been tempted over the winter with a couple of new 2014/2015 models I've seen at a couple dealers. I think I would have to keep the Silverwing as I have invested some maintenance and upgrades for the upcoming season and I like it in many ways and for many reasons. Easy to maintain, seems to be bulletproof and run forever, easy to flat foot for us shorter riders.

I am sure the cost of maintaining the BMW is going to be higher and parts don't seem to be as easy to find. Dealer can't even deliver one until later in month as brake line recall right now and don't have parts, seem to be repairing purchased bikes first.

Also, I haven't found an online forum as great as this one for 650GT/600 BMW's that has as much info and as active a group.  The Google group I found seems pretty quiet and haven't gained much info from it.

Thanks!

After almost 60 years of riding bikes and scooters I gotta say that the Silverwing, Burgman 650 and the BMW C650GT are some of the best rides I've owned. If I had the space I'd have kept all three.

My opinion of these three fine machines are:
Silverwing, excellent overall, great handling, super reliable. Easy maintenance. Least comfort features, poor OEM windshield, some with ABS. Least expensive of the three. Best looking of the three in my opinion.

Burgman 650, very good, fine handling, reliability a bit of a question with the transmission problem some have had. Nice smooth ride. Comfort and convenience features such as heated grips and seats, electric windshield. Somewhat more of a maintenance chore due to the plastic. ABS standard. Most expensive of the three. Kinda big in the butt too when seen from the rear.

BMW C650GT, excellent handling, most sporty performance of these three, Comfort and convenience features such as heated grips and seats, electric windshield, all lights except headlight are LED, ABS standard. Single sided swing arm, 15" rims. Odd angular styling is a slight negative to me.

At the present time if I can only have one I prefer my 650GT. Mainly because of its handling in the twisties. It's quick In the curves partly due to more ground clearance. My second choice is the SW because of its reliability and overall performance and handling. I hope to have another SW in the fairly near future to go along with my GT.

Nice thumbnail reviews. Thanks.

Does the BMW 650 GT have a CVT transmission similar to the Silverwing or something more akin to the Burgman 650?

The BMW uses a similar CVT system. The main difference is that the variator is on the right side with a cross shaft and chain drive to the rear wheel that runs in an oil bath. No reduction gears at the rear wheel. Not quite as easy to change belts as on the SW but not all that much more difficult either. No where near as the complex electric motor driven set up the B650 uses.
