My typing might be a little rough today. I can barely raise my right arm.

24 hours ago a car ran a red light in Columbus just in front of me. I T-boned the car on my SWing.

It happened so quickly I don't even remember hitting him, I hit the brakes, but it didn't help. I hit the passenger door, my head went through the window.

The next thing I recall was lying in the street already aching. The SWing is destroyed. Tupperware everywhere. It was hauled to a junkyard.

Today I eel like I've been beaten. But still I'm actually lucky. I was wearing a full face helmet with the face plate down. Also a Kevlar reinforced jacket. Those areas are fine.

The squad said I would have died without the helmet. No questions.

Please, wear a helmet and a good one. Don't ride in tee shirts. Give yourself a chance.

I don't know if I'll buy another bike. This call was just too close. My whole point in posting is to share something that I hope will help others. Don't think helmets are foolish. Our equipment is the ONLY thing that gives us any chance to survive a crash at all.

RIDE SAFE!!!

I pray you will heal quickly.

Did the driver of the car get a ticket??

I think the post title says it all. You seem to have used a few of your lives there.

I'm so glad your able to tell your tale and advise those riders who may not take all the precautions regards their clothing that perhaps they aught to!

Gentlemen,

Thank you all. I'm on the mend. Yes, Bill, the driver was cited for running a red light. Also seems to have good insurance. We'll soon see.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend.

Very Glad you are able and willing to share the experience. If driver Bill had good insurance then he is probably a responsible adult and will learn from this. This would be another small positive. I Pray you will heal quickly and soon be on the road with your new scoot.

WOW... NO, you are not LUCKY to be alive, you prepared to STAY ALIVE. Helmet and Kelvar did their job. It never ceases to amaze me that someone reading your post today will go out and ride without preparing as you did. We had a young lady fail to make a curve here in Rison just a few weeks ago. Her obituary said she enjoyed biking. She was not wearing a helmet when she slammed into the telephone pole right in front of her daughter.

Glad to hear you weren't injured too badly. I can relate to not being sure about replacing the Swing right away. I went through something very similar just over a year ago. Take a little time to consider your options and make up your mind when all the pains go away.

Thanks to everyone. Bill, the EMS squad looked me over on the scene. A close friend is a neurosurgeon. He checked me out and I have an appointment in the office first thing Tuesday for XRays. He is frankly amazed that I'm alive. The equipment did what it is designed to do, but God was on my side. I know that is true.

It is good to take every precaution.
