Hi All,

My name is Brandon and this past weekend I purchased my first scooter, a 2005 Honda Silverwing with about 20k miles. I've had a chance to take it out for a few hours and I love it!

Looking forward to sharing experiences and advice with my fellow forum members, I spent about a month lurking before I ended up buying my S'wing and this seems like a great resource.

If you plan to work on your scooter you definitely do need a service manual. Helm Inc. makes licensed reprints of Honda manuals. A full service manual runs about $65 but it's worth every penny.

Take a look here:

Much appreciated exavid, I'm on the site checking them out now!  Just wondering though... I'm really inexperienced mechanically.  I've done construction and assembly type stuff, know how to use tools and whatnot, but I've never gotten into the weeds with mechanical stuff.  Will this guide be enough for me to get started?  My main concern is that I might do more harm than good.

Also, they recommend the "Common Service Manual" as well.  Is that a necessary addition?

Thank you all for the warm welcome, looking forward to seeing you out on the road!

Welcome to this great forum. I agree with the advice to get a workshop manual. But beware that even though it is very good; it does not always show all the details; for example how to remove panels.Often you have to pull or push a panel in a particular direction to disengage the lugs. To me that is the worst part of working on a scooter. It is easy to snap of one of the plastic lugs and very hard to repair them:affraid: . But there are excellent procedures and pictorials available on this forum from guys who have done it more than once.
