Changing engine and final drive oil

Hello silverwing community, I am a proud new owner of a 2006 silverwing abs blue with 4500 KM. I've had the bike for about a couple weeks and loving it so far. I've already learned so much about from you guys in this community.

I've decided to change the engine oil and the final drive oil(which I didn't know existed until coming in this forum) I know there's a lot of discussion on the type of oil to use in the final drive. I've decided to go with amsoil 10w30 in both. Can I go wrong with this combination? I have some royal purple max gear 75w90 gear oil left in the garage from my previous scooter that i wanted to use but didn't wanna go against the manufacturer. I was so anxious to see how the drive oil looks like after reading this forum so already drained it out and it's waiting to be filled back in. I just want a final confirmation from you guys. The previous owner said he just changed the oil in the engine and he put rotella t6. Looks clean but wanna change it anyway.

Hello and welcome to the forum. My final answer is that you can not go wrong either way. I my self have used 75/90 gear oil in the final drive and have 56,000 miles on my 06 S/W. I think the consensus on engine oil is don't waste your money on synthetic oil. Howard

Thanks for the introduction. It sounds as if you found a nice scooter that just needs riding. Your choice of oil sounds good to me.

Now get that oil changed and get some riding done.

moenaboulsi welcome to the best Silverwing forum on the web. Sounds like you found a good one. I would keep an eye on your tires for any signs of cracking or dry rot. The tires on your scooter are nine or ten years old if they are still the original ones. I have a 2007 with original tires I'm still riding on but most people don't trust tires older than five or six years. I inspect my tires regularly and if I found any signs age I'd replace them.
If you are looking forward to learning and plan on doing your own maintenance you'll find you can do anything you need or want with the service manual and help from this forum.

Thanks brother I really appreciate your sound advice. I actually noticed today when changing the oil because my eye was close to the side of the tires, I noticed they were starting to crack a bit. So I am surely going to look into changing them. The service manual is pretty helpful, I ended up getting it with the bike. Thanks again

I did notice today though when I put the oil and then a couple hours later I wanted to go for a ride, when idling the bike was idling between 500 and 1000rpm and felt like it wanted to stop. It did that for a few minutes and went away. I am guessing it's the oil transitioning in. I only changed the final drive oil today.

I would not be to concerned about engine idle until you run a couple of tanks of fuel through your S/W, unless it becomes major problem. And stay away from Ethanol. Howard

I use Honda 10-40 in both engine and final drive. 2005 with 52000 smiles on it.
