Hi NWSSC,  I studied your route and think you hit a couple of my favorite places in USA. Of course anywhere in Arizona is  good but I see  you went south through Reserve, New Mexico toward the Gila Wilderness, then west over to Arizona to Clifton and up (literally) to Hannagan Meadow then on to Alpine. This is a fabulous ride and any person who likes twisties must ride the Clifton to Alpine 100 miler.

It isnt the dragon tail but it is tedious and I do recommend the uphill direction ( south to north). BTW when you get to Hannagan Meadow a turn east will take you to Blue, Arizona. This is a timeless place, no pavement, and one of the great remaining primitive areas in the USA. It is called the  Alps of Arizona. I knew a man who taught school there in 1918. It was my privilege to interview him for a history class in the 80s. He was 101 then, gone  now, of course.

The other favorite of mine is the panhandle of Oklahoma.  The ride from Guymon to Boise City to Kenton is  haunting. Then from Kenton to Raton, New Mexico - mystical. There are  few places anywhere like these. Take enough provisions for  a day and a night and an extra 2 gallons of gas. Kenton may not have gas. Roads in New Mexico may yet not be paved. There  are  other such rides around but these get fewer every year.

I am envious of your ride, thanks for the post.
