We have a few members in our local riding group that have taken a modified version of the DennisB light bar and beside having two LED lights that are always on for conspicuously added two more switched LED lights in the middle of the light bar. We have over half a dozen people with Silverwings in the group and a few times people have had their headlights stop working at night. All but one just needed to clean the starter switch and one had to replace the switch.
Two of these are brighter/whiter than the stock headlights but with four bright LEDs there's more light available than you'll ever need.

These are the LEDs we've been using. They work great and are the lowest price CREE LEDs I've found.

Wow, nice lights. And at a great price too. Any idea how much one of them might weigh?

I had a set of Denali LEDs on a Dennis bar but, even though they were just about the same size as these lights, they were too heavy for the bar and, in the end, were too bouncy.

There seem to be any number of good aux lights out there, but the problem is; where to mount them? Mounting lights on the forks seems okay for being seen by oncoming traffic, but not for serious night riding. Night vision lights need to be mounted high to be effective --eye level would be ideal, but...

It's a shame that some Imagineer can't conjure up a light bar mount that is supported by the front fairing bolts (where the Dennis bar mounts) and those large hex bolts that secure the upper fairing near the headlight; vertical bars running up the side with at horizonal bar joining them in the middle. Like a big letter "H".

Tim,
You might have better luck with a roll bar approach.
Imagine a cross bar that  has holes in it so that the bolts
holding the top box to the rear wing go thru the cross bar.
The cross bar supports a roll bar (what some might call a sissy bar)
sufficient to be above the height of the rider.
Then you can mount any lights you want on the bar,
and shine them wherever you want.
The higher mount can shine down at a better angle so it is less likely
to blind oncoming traffic (or low flying aircraft).

Tim I'll get the weight of one for you later. Since DennisB is no longer available to buy his light bar from we've been having them made at a local scooter shop. They are pretty simple to make if you have a welder available. As I said above a few people have four of the lights mounted on a modified light bar by just adding two more small "legs" to the center of the light bar. I've not noticed any bouncing of the lights and I always ride second in line so I can see the others that have them in my mirrors. If I can get someone to get pictures of the setup I'll post them here.

Here is another option for LED lights I found on Ebay. I think they look nice. I didn't buy them yet but they're on the someday list. The price is right.

First let me answer the question Tim asked about the lights I posted at the top, they are about 200 grams each. That sounds heavy, I was surprised but that's what they are. I haven't noticed any vibration on any of scooters using them, even those using four of them. Tim do you know what the Denali LEDs weigh? I still don't have pictures but when I do I'll post them.

That brand looks interesting too hotwings, and they say they are 30W. It's interesting they have three different modes, high, low, and flashing. I'd like to see them in person to see what they mean by "Unique square spot suitable for pavement". That price is for one light only not a pair,I'm sure you saw that but I thought mention it. The price starts to climb when you start adding mounting brackets, but here is a different seller that is selling them $4.20 cheaper. They also appear to be a more stable or at least larger dealer, although their name is "snakewang".  Rolling Eyes

Still not a bad deal at $48 for 2 lights and 2 mounts. However the lights in your first post look like a better quality light. I think the "square spot" mentioned is similar to a 2000 lumen flashlight (can make a blind man see) I got from Ebay a couple months ago. The light beam is actually square when shining onto an object. Not sure what that would be like as a vehicle light!

No it's not a bad deal at all. I already have the kind I posted for both the Silverwings I'm keeping but I would like to see in person the ones you found too.

I'd like to see your 2000 lumen flashlight in person too. I have found out with LED flashlights you need to keep an eye on the batteries. I had a two D cell LED Mag light and a two AA cell 180 lumen LED flashlight that the batteries were in so long they leaked and destroyed the lights.

Those Denali lights weigh 12.8 oz each. Off hand I don't know what that equate to in grams.

12.8 ounces is 362.87 grams. What did you do with the Denali lights? I'd really like to have a set to compare them. I think I'd add them in between the ones I have and have them switched separate from the headlights. The ones I have come on with the headlights so they are on day and night.

For those looking for a powerful flashlight, try this:
http://www.gizmag.com/nitecore-tiny-monster-tm26-flashlight/27212/

The 'square beams' are common on cree flashlights and come from the shape of the square led chip.
Most of these lights have a way of changing the beam from spot to flood, and you only see the square when it is in spot mode.

Hmmmmm.....now that's an idea....Imagine a headlight that switches from flood to spot when there is an oncoming car....

Someone finally took a picture for me, and I finally got it uploaded. Now I'll find out if I can post it.
If it works below is a picture of my 07 with the LEDs I got from the link I posted above.

                     LED lights

ive got these ones fitted to my own scooter

great light work well etc

only bad thing is each time the power is turned on and off it goes to a different setting so from full beam to half beam to strobe effect

i contacted the seller about if could set the light to one setting or just to stop the strobe effect
but never got the correct answer eventually i got a set sent through from them FOC

i got mine from amazon uk and where a lot cheaper

i made a small bracket to bolt onto dennis light bar
the bracket fastened to the light bar with the original hole and the other 2 holes made to fit the mount on the light unit as

i didnt use the full light mount the clamp part that is left on the light is tapped so made some bolts up to mount

Hey model28a is there anyway to get a close up of the mounts and the lights? Looks good, I have the same lights but haven't gotten creative enough to mount them, looking for ideas before I commit. Nice ride by the way

The mount is just like the DennisB light bar pictured below. If you look under the front of your scooter you will see two pan head allen screws that are about the size of a quarter. You remove them and make a light bar pictured below and use allen head cap screws to hold the light bar on. You may have to buy two collars I believe   #9 on the front cover at this link. The reason I say may is because I've seen some Silverwings that already had the collars already there.
I hope this explains things good enough for you.  Wink
