PostSubject: Kent (UK) Rideout   Tue Aug 18, 2009 6:23 am

This is the 7th Annual Kent Rideout organised by the X9OC and will take place on 20th. September, 2009.

The X9 is no longer made and many X9ers (club founder members included) have moved to Silverwings, Burgers, MP3s and so on.
As a consequence, the Ride is now open to riders of any maxi - all very welcome.

The rendezvous is not fixed yet but is usually Pratts Bottom or the Oakdene Cafe.

I'll post more details when I know them.

We do try to stick to Group Riding where possible as we've found it makes things easier for everyone.

Here's a link to the re-run of last year's - several regulars couldn't come last September so we repeated it under the title Kent 6-and-a-Half :

JJ, the organizer, has just posted this:

As this is the 7th Kent Ride I've organised and being short of time this year, I've decided to revisit Kent 1 which was one of my particular favourites.

Starting at Pratts Bottom (opposite the petrol station) on the London/Kent Border at 11:00.

From there we'll ride up to Knockholt, then through:

Badgers Mount
Shoreham
Otford
Chevening
Brasted
Westerham
Crockham Hill
Four Elms
Toys Hill

To Ide Hill

For our first stop
Great Views and good toilets

Down to Bough Beech
Hever
Markbeech
Chiddingstone
Chiddingston Causeway
Penshurst

Where we'll stop for Lunch in the grounds of Penshurst Place

We'll then go via the Bidbourgh Causeway to Southborough
Tonbridge
Shipbourne
Ightham
Borough green
Wrotham
West Kingsdown
Farningham

Possible stop at Enysford

Chelsfield

Back to Pratts Bottom by 16:00 Hours

I won't post a link yet because there's loads of waffle in the thread but will when appropriate.

You'd have been very welcome, as indeed would the one to whom we refer been. Smile

Thanks for the reply, Bob. Have a good trip.

I think Muppets had a rideout themselves that weekend, Doug.

It was a good do, dry and sunny although it bucketed down on the way home.

I forgot to say:

The Rideout is Learner-Friendly; no motorways and we always ride for the slowest/least-experienced rider.

If appropriate, there may be a pre-arranged short stretch where those who want to 'have a blast' can do so - I always stay with the pack and enjoy the scenery.

In fact, this Ride was the first I ever did (when it was Kent 1), less than a month after I'd passed my Test.

Definitely no enrolment!

I'm not into SatNavs but Pratts Bottom is close to J4 -M25.
Follow the A21 over the first roundabout (A224)
Approaching the next roundabout, the Shell Garage is on the right.
Go round the roundabout and into the garage - that's where we usually meet to fill up before we leave.
Most people arrive around 10.30.

Here's the link to the thread about it:

http://www.x9ownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=16819.0

I'll ask for the Post Code in the thread.

There will be a fairly wide selection of maxis and a few Vespas, too. There may even be an X9!
With any luck I shall have my Silverwing by then.

Hello Darek!

There should be two or three Silverwings on the Kent Rideout.

As far as the X9OC is concerned, the rider of any maxi is welcome - several former X9 owners have moved on to Burgmans and a few to Silverwings, Fuocos, MP3s, GP800s, etc.

The rideouts are orderly but very friendly - we do try to do proper Group Riding, staggered formation and so on, as far as possible so everyone knows where he is and isn't having to watch out for renegades whizzing past unexpectedly.
We also do 'second (third) man drop-off' so no-one gets left behind at junctions.

Bring a packed lunch - IIRC there's nowhere to buy food at the lunch stop.

We do have fag-breaks for taking photos and having a ciggie!

Couple of questions.

1) The weather is looking iffy for Sunday in Kent, what happens if it's raining hard on Sunday morning?

2) How many of you live near Kent?
