First time ride

Hello All,
  I just had to go for a ride even though it was cold,
All went well but one thing that is going to take time  is the front is covered by the fairing, can't see the
front tire. This is the first bike that I have rode like this, but it will be better than eating bugs.
 A real coaster as no trans to down shift to slow down, sixty seems to be a sweet spot.

Congrats on your first ride. I found the SWing to do great on the interstate adn would cruise at 70-75 mph and it would not break a sweat. Keep us informed as you ride it more when the weather eases up some.

If you keep the rpms up enough to keep the clutch engaged it works pretty well to keep speeds down on downgrades.

Hello. I find that 70 to 75 is smooth on mine. Also, much slower and someone could drive over the top of me on the I85/I285 in Atlanta.

The idea is to look where you intend to go. If you're looking at your front tire you'll certainly be headed toward something unexpected.

I think that's one of the first things we're taught in the Motorcycle Safety Course.

  The point I was trying to make is that I am used to having the gauge cluster turn as
you went around a corner everything is in motion now it is a whole new feeling man.
  AS far as my personal direction that has always been in question.

Congrats. You are now ridding with a bunch of people who know what fun the S/W is and the best place to ask anything you need to know about you ride.

Just remember. Even though it is an automatic scooter and big bikes will not think of you as having a REAL bike, you can blow most of them off the road from a stand still and ride at 70-80 all day long. (you may want to think about getting an Air Hawk seat pad for rides longer than 2 hr)

Top speed for me was 113 mph. with a slight down hill in Death Valley,don't try this because your motor might start leaking a little oil afterwords. :lol!:

Shouldn't cause a leak, it didn't the several times I tested out my '07 SW's top speed with my GPS. My BMW C650GT is about ten mph faster but both scooters are plenty fast enough to make a guy on a Harley Sportster cry.

I've had 117mph out of my 2002 Wing, downhill between Kate's Cottage and the Creg Ny Baa pub on the Mountain section of the TT Course on the Isle of Man. I had no problem with oil leaks afterwards and the bike ran as though it was on rails.

Just a note of caution....The SWings tires have a certain speed rating I think of 112 mph. I know the speedo is optimistic but I would still be careful. We would hate to lose members due to the speed rating on the tires...after all....we need a certain number of members to maintain this site.

Indeed, and one other thing, don't try high speed runs with worn tires. If something goes wrong at 100+ with one of these machines it ain't gonna be pretty. One good thing is you probably won't have to worry about the felony speeding ticket.

117 (188kph) that is fast for a scooter! I touched 165kph one evening on a flat deserted back highway. The swing was still climbing in speed but i chickened out and backed off. I could only imagine what would happen if one of those little tires exploded at that speed.

Hey Lar Man great to hear and read about your 1st ride on a Swing. I"m pretty new here myself and have gotten some good info from the site. And after getting back from a 4500 mile trek I never done anything so hard and like John G on this site said you can't just do that long a ride with out working up to it. Of course I headed out in the wee hours of New Jersey to beat traffic with 9' weather and 15 to 20 mph wind, short story as I am trying to write a essay that con post on here that they had to help me off the bike long run from Arkansan Ar to El Paso... And like everyone is saying it will run all day and night at 75mph and not say a thing and about the seat on the swing it was as smooth as anything my hurt and swelling of my hands and arms
where the real problem.

The speed was measured by the speedometer, so it probably was optimistic. The conditions were dry with a calm wind. The road surface is good, as it is part of the TT Course and the road is straight. The bike was in good condition, having been serviced the week before and the tyres had less than 500 miles on them. The road was empty at the time. I think I ticked all the boxes for the RUN of a lifetime!
