After riding a number of different scoots with the last one being a K4 Burg 400, I bought a low mileage SilverWing two seasons ago from a lady who found it too much for her to handle.  She dropped it twiced within the 3,500 km. she owned it and noticeably scratched up both sides.

My plan was to make a winter project out of repairing/replacing the tupperware and bring the scoot back up to spec and full glory.

I haven't ridden much since purchasing it due to a major project consuming me and a twice ruptured Achiles tendon. (long story)

Finally got out on a nice weekend riding getaway and .... yup ... the scoot fell over after rain softened the gravel driveway it was parked on and the sidestand sunk in and over it went.  (my bad for not using a plastic sidestand plate).

I am bummed out.  Good news is I didn't start the original restoration so that work is not lost.  Bad news is, the new damage looks pretty complete (lots of deep scratches, broken tabs, a newly cracked inside tupperwear piece etc.)

Initially I was not planning on replacing the damaged pieces, sinply repairing, priming and painting them.  With so many tabs broken now, I'm wondering if it's work the trouble.  I hate looking at any vehicle that is not well taken of care and almost feel embarassed to mount this fine scoot.

Keep it the way it is is not an option for me.  What would you do?

I would assess how many areas can be "touched up" with matching pain (like Colorite) or nail polish. Other areas that you deem "needing replacement" may be found on ebay at good prices. Their may be other owners with extra body parts who would sell them reasonably...

+1 to billc's advice. Also, if you can only find panels in other colors, paint it whatever color you want. Take the panels off the bike and have a shop do it if you don't want to.

BugJr,

I see you have an '05 model so it is either titanium or black.  In 2006 Honda went with a silver skirt on the US models.  The 'skirt' is item 2 and 4 in the following pic.

More Scratches ... Silver10

The listed part number will get you the silver skirts.  I have the number for the titanium if you'd prefer.

It is worth trying to fix, don't know how much damage you have so not certain how much the paint pens would help.  I do know from a drop that the skirts sustain more damage than a paint pen can cover.  Broken tabs can be 'repaired' there have been many threads that discuss such on this forum, just search for 'tabs' or 'plastic repair'.

This may be a chance to do a full paint job?  Or a custom plastic wrap or hydro-dip.

I have a spread sheet that contains many of the part numbers for the plastic on the titanium 2005 model if you'd like it you can pm or e-mail me.

Sounds like there is a lot of work involved to make it right again. Take it from me I know how much time it takes to do repairs and learning to paint.
If it were up to me I would do a complete wrap with the graphite plastic wrap. There are many different colors and not expensive plus easy to work with. If you make a mistake you can remove and redo.
I did the cover on my exhaust (after trying to spot putty, painting with heat paint) last year and it still looks new. Good luck.
PS the broken and missing tabs are quite time consuming because you need a dremmel tool and piece of plastic the same thickness and you need to design a matching piece which is fun but takes time.

Thanks all for replying and ofr your ideas. I'm no stranger to the plastic welding of tabs etc. ... in fact, I think I picked up those tips here on this forum when I repaired our Burg 400 after it spilled on newly laid asphalt (the loose stone bits).

I have debated whether to fix and spot paint ... or total sand down, fix and repaint ... or now that it has been suggested, some kind of wrap. I'll probably decide once I have all of the tupperware off and can see the "inside damage. ~ Bugjr ~

Bugjr,

Best wishes on the project. I'd really love to see a maple leaf themed wrap on your 'wing. You'd be the king of show and shine! Any other personalized wrap would be just as cool. That is the beauty of the wrap technology. I don't know how it compares to paint, but I'm sure it is cheaper than the hydro-dip option.

Can't wait to see pictures of the project next spring.

Hey, and heal well and quickly!

Watching this with interest.
Having dropped the Stone Lion while crossing through a ford (long story - I got very wet) I need to repair some scratches under the LH foot-board; fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on which way you look at it) my leg was pinned under it so the scratches were relatively minor.
I think also a tab may have broken adjacent to the LH cubby - there's a very small gap between blue and black plastic. It's not flapping about. Leave it?

Oooo ... now you have my mind spinnning.  I love the maple leaf theme idea.  Dang ... I can see this will cost me more in time and money already.

P.S. - I wasn't on the scoot when it went over.  The hard rain softened the gravel underneath the sidestand and the wind pushed it over!  This is the second time this has happened to me.  The first was on a flat, asphalt parking lot and a terrific rain/wind storm pushed both of our scoots over ... one on top of the other!

Personally I'd leave it unless you want to open a "can of worms' and make it perfect.  If it isn't affecting anything ... just leave it for now.

I rode with the previous owners imperfections for two season until the above described mishap happened.  Now the scoot looks really aweful and I can't just leave it the way it is.  This will be a winter project for me so pics will take a while.

Thanks again for all your input people! ~ Bugjr ~
