I am the third owner of my 06 Silverwing. The first owner laid it down twice, nothing bad, its been checked thoroughly by me and the gentleman I bought it from.

Speaking of the gentleman I bought it from. Because the plastic panels had some scuff marks, he decided to paint it yellow. From a paint can of hi-viz Rustoleum safety yellow - with a brush.

I got the bike for a phenomenal price, its loaded, etc. After having it now for a year and a half, Ive have decided to strip the yellow hand brushed paint and repaint it a matte yellow as I have come to like the color.

Just wanted to document the process and share.
I've taken tons of photos for my own sake, reassembly, etc I wont bombard you, but here she is with all the panels off.
Rims are being picked up from the powder coater today, new rubber put on.
Have stripped the front fender. Will be doing some tab repairs and start stripping there the rest this week.A bare-nekkid Silverwing:Overhauling the bike Nekkid11

It looks like you are chemical stripping the paint on the fender per your photo. Wouldn't that soften the plastic under the paint?

Yes and no. Lemme explain.

I started with the fender because I have a near new extra fender laying around if something should have gone wrong to the point of no return.

The very first spray of the stripper - which is Permatex Paint Stripper - within 15 seconds, that yellow brushed on Rustoleum paint starts coming off. If I start scraping it off within 30 second, all the yellow pretty much comes right off and then I hit it with water.

Im not looking to get it to the point of removing the yellow, the factory blue down the white plastic. Just want the yellow gone and I can sand and prime the rest.

For my test with the fender, I sprayed the stripper on twice. The second time, it did in just one area start to make a super thin layer of plastic a little shiney, etc. I washed it off immediately and all is good. I will be good now, I have the removal process down. Look forward to it actually.
