Hi, everyone. I am new to riding and my Silverwing is my first bike. I have loved almost every minute of riding it.

I know it's difficult to diagnose something without actually seeing it in person, so I'll try to be descriptive. When I am slowing down and I turn right into a parking space (5-10mph appx.), I can hear this purring sound around my front wheel or maybe even the steering stem. Either way, it is in the front, it only happens (or I can only hear it) when I'm turning right slowly, and it makes a "crrrrrrrrrrr" sound (roll the r).

Has anyone dealt with this in the past? I would appreciate your help. By the way, it's a 2007 SW with 8,400 miles. I've dropped it on its right side after turning over a puddle of algae and water. Maybe that affected it.

Thanks!

I had a sound like that coming from the glove box. It ended up being a box of tick tacks vibrating . The Swing makes many different sounds when slowing down from the clutch slowing you down, causing vibration coming from the front.Could be a broken tab when you fell, tire cupping.s Some of the things you learn to live with.Time will tell you if it needs fixing.

Check all the sidepanels and tabs. Maybe something came loose.

Try to apply front brake only(right lever)when you hear that sound. If it stops then
could be rattling from the brake pads

Using the front brake at slow speed and turning is a recipe for disaster.

Cheers,

My Silverwing emits a slight rumble from the front wheel (probably) in turns.
I think it's a characteristic of my bike and maybe others.

AFAIC it's just one of those things.....like the wires rattling in the fairing when I ride into Bruges over the cobbles.

It's not a rumble, it's a purring sound as if some plastic were being rubbed against rubber. It only happens when I'm slowing down and turning right. It's not the brakes, as I've tried turning with and without them and it makes the noise both times.

Is it possible that when I'm turning, some part is coming in contact with a loose piece of plastic and causing it to vibrate?

Sound travels from the road to all the plastic bits in front of you . As you turn the sound can be more pronounce , the texture of the pavement produce different sounds. The more miles you put on your Swing, the more it will feel normal. Thats the way it is .The only solution is to Jack up the paint ,and drive a motorcycle with no plastic peaces on.Just drive it like you stole it,This beast will drive you nuts or the force will take you to the DS :lol!: frustrated

Are you sure it's not the sound of the cooling fan kicking in ?

When you turn, more weight transfers to one fork leg allowing it to dive a bit. This can be enough to cause the rotor to rub on the brake pads. As one poster suggested, try LIGHTLY applying your front brake when making this turn. Not enough to slow the bike down, just enough to cause the pads to connect with the rotor. If the sound goes away, you have probably found the culprit.

If it bothers you enough, try using earplugs!

Wearing earplugs is always a good idea to prevent hearing damage. I can't be the only old git on here that suffers from tinnitus caused by the many years of riding without them. Crying or Very sad
