PostSubject: Utopia Back rest   Sat Jan 28, 2012 5:14 pm

Just has the Utopia Back rest installed on my 2007 silvewing
Have read on the forum that some have used a stick to prop
up the seat when open because the original shock will not
hold. Has any one replaced this with an aftermarket from the
auto parts store and if so- do you have the model # ?
Would be interested in comments.
Thanks
Drew Arlington

Drew, I order the products listed above several weeks ago and it works great. About $40 total. Be extra careful and not let out too much gas in the cylinder as it can/t be replaced. Put some extra weight on the seat and leave it a bit too strong at first till you're sure what works best. Mine is adjusted so that it pops up when the key is turned. Sometimes it doesn't release from that second underseat latch and I take my fist and give it a pop on the seat just in front of the buttpad.

When you ordered your Gas Springs from McMaster did you have to tell
the size. I measured the factory on the Scooter and it's 12" long fully
extended.
Plan on calling McMaster tomorrow and order. Just was wondering if I need
anything other than the 1@ 6465K12 Reducible Force Gas Spring 3.94" stroke 90 lbs max force M5 male threads SZ
Thanks for you Info
