| Last summer my son went on a college class - 2 weeks between Italy and Greece - 2 weeks England When he came back, he started drinking Guinness. This summer he went for 4 weeks in Durham, England When he came back, he started drinking tea.Now my son will be leaving soon for a year for his Graduate study at Durham University I am worried he will come back with an English accent I may have to be at Durham University next year around this time for his graduation. BTW I have been to England numerous times and all I ever got was a red Manchester United shirt _________________ Bill - Georgetown TX 07 Silver Wing ABS Clearview w/vent, Givi E96/TB19/E52 with Admore Lighting, Alaskan Leather, Wrist Rests, 3M Solas tape, K&N air, Hyperpro spring, Grip Puppies, Airhawk, Utopia backrest, Stebel, Apexcone HIDs, StingerZ LEDs (w/Backoff WigWag), Knight Rider Sequential LED, NGK Iridium, Power Commander III, Manic Salamander, Saeng mirrors, Garmin Zumo 660, Dark-Side Sumitomo Tire |

| Try this link - It may help with the translation. (Most of us can't understand the North East (Geordie) accent anyway).

| Durham University is up there in the prestige tables with Oxford and Cambrige, but 'Town and Gown' don't mix that much. So you can rest assured your son won't go 'native' by going out in the depths of winter in a T shirt, eating doner kebabs after a dozen pints of Newcastle Brown Ale, and then trying to set fire to his farts! p.s. I've just found out there is a Durham University Fart Lighting Society, oh dear! |

| No need to worry honda silver, I understand that 'crack wax' is non-inflamable. Should not be used by female members of the society if they are pregnant. (This condition usually only manifests itself during the second year (sophomore) as the first year students are in dormitories).
Your worst fear is that he comes back home with an 'British sense of humour' - then you will have to move to Arkansas to regain some level of social standing!

This gem will be passed to my serving service buddies.
I'm sure it may have saved a few burned rear ends after a night on the ale and a rendition of 'the dance of the burning ar*e h*les.'
(A (British) naval tradition that when totally wrecked, clothing would be removed and rolled newspaper inserted anally and then set fire too!!!!) All to the war cry of "Haul em down you Zulu warrior." The assembled crowd would then throw beer at the flames to extinguish the flames.
Unfortunately some 'dancers' would take so long in their performance many in the audience would have quaffed their ale and had no beer left to put out the flames!

| Tarmac says : Your worst fear is that he comes back home with an 'British sense of humour' - then you will have to move to Arkansas to regain some level of social standing!Bills social standing is too cityfied to be granted Arkansas residence. I may be able to find a discounted rate on a room at the Arkansas Department of Corrections at the Tucker Unit. |

| It has started .... A family friend meet my son at the airport and drove my son up to Durham University. He noticed (and told me) that my son was saying "cheers" instead of "thanks" more and more frequently. _________________ Bill - Georgetown TX 07 Silver Wing ABS Clearview w/vent, Givi E96/TB19/E52 with Admore Lighting, Alaskan Leather, Wrist Rests, 3M Solas tape, K&N air, Hyperpro spring, Grip Puppies, Airhawk, Utopia backrest, Stebel, Apexcone HIDs, StingerZ LEDs (w/Backoff WigWag), Knight Rider Sequential LED, NGK Iridium, Power Commander III, Manic Salamander, Saeng mirrors, Garmin Zumo 660, Dark-Side Sumitomo Tire |

| Meldrew, some may "hammer" you on this forum, and that is allowed in a free country, but I want you to know that I really enjoy your knowledge and participation. I don't want to sound too "gushy" or patronizing, but I think you are great. Of course, I am biased. Some names in my mother's background were Scrimshaw, Jones, and Crawford. I'm proud of some of the blood from across the pond coursing through my veins. Never give up. |

| This thread reminds me of an old joke.
A friend of mine moved from the UK to the USA. When asked why, he replied:
"A hundred years ago gays were stoned to death. Fifty years ago they were jailed. 25 years ago they were shunned in society. Today its totally accepted."
"So your prejudiced against gays?"
"No not at all. I just wanted to move out before it became mandatory." _________________ I ride on two wheels cause I feel very unsafe on one wheel.Dan in Miami. The king of custom! | Ha! HA! HA! HA! Tom I don't think I have laughed so much over just 7 words in my life.
It will be 4 decades ago in 2 years. Although I still ride bicycle, I wouldn't dare try that now. Even if I did it would take me a month instead of 5 days.
