| Can anyone confirm that the drive belt used with a J Costa Variator is the standard one? My 'V' light has come on after only 3500 miles (total). This seems a rather low mileage given that the reccomended belt change is 16000 miles. I need to take it apart to check the pins. Does anyone know the dimensions (length) of the pin so that I can measure wear?
Answers and thoughts appreciated.

| When I ran the J Costa and went fast (80mph or more) for any length of time, the V light would come on. It did this with 2 different belts and 2 different sets of pins. I believe that the RPMs were off of what the computer thought them to be and triggered the light. It got to the point where I never reset it even though I no longer have the Jcosta installed and have 30k miles on the bike, the V light is still on. One of these days it will burn out I hope.
Don't worry about it and enjoy the acceleration. Remember that the Jcosta does need a new belt every 8k instead of 16k. |

| Thanks for the info. Got to admit it came on just as I was getting off the Chunnel train in France, spent two weeks wondering if it was going to make the trip or not. Needless to say it did.
How do you reset the 'V' light? Is it just a case of uncoupling the battery for a while?

With key off press and hold the buttons for setting clock and trip meter. Turn ignition on and after a few seconds it should go out.

| Thankyou BB, that procedure worked first time. Now I can ride without that yellow light staring up at me. Hopefully belt is good for another 3K miles.
