PostSubject: A new chapter in my Silverwing book...   Fri Jun 17, 2011 3:48 pm

Last night while surfing the internet looking for a replacement bike I found a dealership in Steamboat Springs, Colorado that had a new 2009 Silverwing for sale for only $6,499.00. I called him this afternoon and after visiting with him for a bit, I decided to buy it. I am driving up to Steamboat tomorrow to sign the papers and ride it home. And so begins the next chapter in my Silverwing story... I will add more later...

Thank you both. Dennis: my "D" is for David.
I had a very nice break-in ride home yesterday. My wife and I pulled into Steamboat about noon and went straight to the dealership. I just had to sign some papers and had them install a few items (topcase, exhaust, air filter), and by 3:00 pm we were heading back to Littleton. It is a 170 mile trip that crosses 2 big passes (Rabbit Ears and the Eisenhower tunnels).

We hit a couple of rain showers, but the bike performed flawlessly and with the superior weather protection provided by the Swing, I stayed dry. I'm not sure why, but I got my best gas mileage ever at 57.8 mpg. It wasn't because I stayed below 55 mph. I noticed that my rpms were low for a given speed. At 60 mph (indicated) the engine was only turning 4500 rpm. 5000 rpms had me travelling at 70 mph (indicated) This may be due to a combination of the smaller windscreen, the OEM variator and the better air filter and exhaust.

I have to admit that I sort of miss the extra kick provided by the J Costa, but I really like getting that sort of gas mileage. I will have to consider options.
More later.
