PostSubject: Rattles and drums   Sun Jun 12, 2011 9:53 am

Inspired by Dennis's rattle fix. Ive found a few more that help eliminate the Tupperware, hollow sound, as well as some vibration buzzes.
Using Dennis's Foam door seal, i eliminated a plastic buzz from the insert under the rear carrier.
Remove the carriers 4 bolt and unscrew the plastic inset. Along the inside lip, apply the wonder foam, and screw it back into place. Actually, the carrier would be more hook friendly if the plastic under insert was removed altogether, but there you go.

I found a cheaper way to eliminate the hollow sound that the body panels have in them as well. Before, i used closed cell neoprene to deaden the sound and eliminate the drumming vibrations inherent in large panels. Its hard to find, and very expensive.
Rubberized self adhesive cork works wonders. It doesn't even really have to be rubberized, but its vastly more weather proof, and even denser, that's the key, dense and thin as allowable. So far i have put it on the side panels where the air filter, and fuses are, in long 1 inch strips running the length of the bottom edge and another halfway up as well. It now sounds so amazingly solid. I will be applying this as i find i need to remove panels from the bike. The fairing would benefit from this greatly!

The good thing is that you can easily find rubberized cork at any home improvement store! Yea!

Make sure you clean the area you are applying it to completely with denatured alcohol first, and make sure it is as firmly adhered as humanly possible!

I'm glad you explained this.

I was very concerned you were accessorizing your bike with rattles and drums and turning your Silverwing into a rolling Mariachi Band.

I thought the rattling and drumming was put in the bike on purpose... so car drivers would be more aware of us. I know some Harley riders put on loud tail pipes for that purpose but then some places have laws against loud tail pipes. There are no laws against rattling and clunking along...

No, that's what tassels on the handlebars are for!

And as tricycles go, this one is pretty badass!

I thought that was the title of one of The Phantom Regiment's shows... (for the DCI fans...)

Thanks for the tips Tagg. I am planning to make some similar adjustments myself this weekend.

Aren't the tassels mementos from a topless dancer at a biker bar?

The problem I see with putting them on a bike handlebar is that they will flog your forearms on the highway.

AHHHH...Nothing like a good forearm flogging to keep a person on their toes and alert.

Throw away the tassels and find the topless dancer.
