PostSubject: Final drive oil change .   Thu Mar 03, 2011 11:17 am

Hi all,

My father went to the local Honda dealer today to pick me up some final drive oil.

He was then told by the dealer that this should only be changed if the drive is ever stripped down.

What do you reckon to that????

The Service Manual and Owners Manual say: Replace every 2 years

If the dealer said anything others: rtfm Wink

I don't think that it is really necessary or very important to change the oil but this are only 2 screws and a few minutes work and a little bit oil... Why not? I couldn't be false Wink

btw, i visited today my dealer and bought the sealing washer for the drain and fillport and will change the oil tomorow. I will take a better oil than the original one (with MOS2), this also can not be bad Wink

It only takes about 15 mins to change and I usually change it with the oil. It uses the same oil and only about 10 oz's so I just try my best to change it with every oil change, when possible.

My first final drive oil change came out quite black with some streaks of very fine particles dispersed throughout it. That was after only 4 months and 3k km of driving on it.
Obviously the oil is cleaning out some kind of crap from the final drive. It will be interesting to see the oil's condition on subsequent drainings.
