This obituary is in the Daily Telegraph today - I though it might be of interest to us all, especially those in the USA:

Thank you for posting, it is a sad end, albeit inevitable. Quite an interesting life - well lived.

To say it's a pleasure doesn't seem quite appropriate......!

Living in West Flanders as I do I am less than an hour's ride from the battle-fields and cemetaries of WWI and significant sites of WWII.

I've always been interested in all this, not least because my grandfather and his brothers were soldiers in the Great War (one was killed and I visited his grave near Ypres 18 months ago) and my father was a soldier in Belgium towards the end of WWII.

I was also always given the responsibility of leading the school assembly every year for Remembrance Day, trying to keep a balance between teaching a little of the horrors of War without being too explicit with my 4 - 11 yo children.

It all moves me very deeply, more as I get older.

Such moments as the death of this American soldier are timely reminders of both bad and good times.
