I have taken a number of pictures of my bike showing the modifications I have made. The pictures are in an album on Photobucket. Click on the link above to go directly to my album of six pictures. Click on a picture to enlarge, click again to enlarge further. Let me know if you can't get into the site and I will post the individual pictures on this board.

I have a couple pictures of my foot pegs. Nothing really new here except we put a rubber bumper on the pegs to protect the tupperware in the event of a sudden deflection of the peg bracket. I can give you more information on how the brackets are mounted and stabilized. They are solid although I wouldn't stand on one.

Hope you enjoy.

I forgot to mention the modifications include an Air Hawk seat cushion, Utopia backrest, XL Clearview windshield, power outlet in the left glove box, cup holder, throttle lock, foot pegs and Givi/Monokey side racks for hard luggage cases. I don't have the hard cases yet. I have a trip planned to Wisconsin this summer and will have them on the bike by then.

Nice work!

Did you have someone make those racks for you or did you buy them.... what is the deal. They look great.

Larry, we have talked about those racks from time to time on this board. They are available from Twisted Throttle and are made in Germany. A number of posters have put them on their bikes. The instructions that come with the parts are in German but a translation is available on the Twisted Throttle web site. I actually spent two hours translating the German myself using four different translation web sites before I discovered a translation was available from Twisted Throttle. I have to admit however, my personal translation ended up being pretty good. I had no trouble putting them on the bike. Cost was $350.00. I didn't tell my wife how much I paid.

I will look for those racks on the forum. Thanks for the tip.

It does sound expensive given that you have to add some good quality saddle bags to the racks as well.

Looks great! Did you buy the foot peg brackets or have them made? Were they expensive? The side case brackets look great too. We have the same bike. Good job.

Cathy, I have not done much of the work on my bike. I paid someone else to put on the windshield, install the electrical outlet and put on the backrest. I did install the racks myself. The foot pegs were a little bit of both.

I bought the bar stock at Home Depot. A friend and I cut out the pieces, bent them 90 degrees, rounded the bottoms by grinding and drilled the necessary holes. I also cut the rubber stoppers at angles so they would hit the side of the bike flat in the event the brackets somehow got pushed in toward the tupperware by accident. I paid someone else to actually install the brackets. That involved bolting the bracket on top of the floor board to another straight piece of bar stock under the floorboard. The metal piece under the floorboard was then connected by welding to the frame with another piece of metal. They had to take the front of the bike apart to do all this. I was going to have the brackets powder coated but did not want to spend that much money and I ended up just painting them a flat black. If they need touching up later that will be easy to do. I bent the brackets down because I need the leg room. I'm 6'3" and having the brackets go up would not work for me. They are very, very solid.

And yes we do have the same bike. Mine is also a 2009 that did not sell that year. I bought it new off the floor at the end of 2010. I traded in a 1999 Honda Helix and got a great deal on the Silver Wing.

Cathy, can you give me some information on your headlight protector? I already have a good sized chip in the plastic headlight cover. What do you have and where did you get it?

I was joking with my friend while we were making the brackets that we should set up a little assembly line and make a bunch of these things for sale. He just laughed and said no thank you. I can't tell you how long it took us to make those things. The final set we actually put on the bike was the result of our fifth attempt to make them properly. And I think I went through nine rubber stoppers trying to cut them at the proper angle before I produced two I was happy with. When we finished with that I think we both said that was enough of that.

midlandchip, I think I will live with what I have. That sure is a lot of work.
You did good.

I got the headlight cover from Cee Bailey's. It was a Christmas gift. Just go to their website.

I'm with you Cathy. All I need are the two hard side cases (Givi E21) and that's it. After that I just plan to ride until I'm no longer able to do it. I like what I have.

When you add the Givi boxes, you will have a very serviceable touring motorcycle.

Tim, I will make some measurements this week and send them to you in a PM. But I need to mention I have done nothing that is new in regard to the foot pegs. I just used ideas others have discussed on this board and others. Even the rubber bumpers are not original - I got the idea on the other Silver Wing board. Perhaps the way the lower bracket, the one under the floor board, is attached to the frame is new. The guy that did my installation took some pictures under the bike when he had everything welded together. I can try to get him to send those to me and I can forward to you.
