| This thread started as a question and answer session and went to the ds tire debate. Can the debaters now leave this thread alone and let the people who want to discuss darkside options, discuss darkside options and questions and answers.
I am interested in a darkside option for my Silverwing. To be honest, I would like to drive over to Discount Tire or any other tire store and pick one up and not have to pay to have one tire shipped to me. Any suggestions?
Walmart tire? All you other cheap DS tire users.... I want to know about it.

| Larry, I personally don't darkside, but if that's your intention I would think you would want the tire with the most rounded shoulder profile you could find. That said, I think our admin, Bill (Honda_Silver), has done the research and determined the Sumitomo to be the best. Your local Discount Tire may not carry it though. I have only used Sumitomo Darkside tires (~50,000 miles). They work well for me, so I have no need to investigate other tires._________________ Bill - Georgetown TX 07 Silver Wing ABS Clearview w/vent, Givi E96/TB19/E52 with Admore Lighting, Alaskan Leather, Wrist Rests, 3M Solas tape, K&N air, Hyperpro spring, Grip Puppies, Airhawk, Utopia backrest, Stebel, Apexcone HIDs, StingerZ LEDs (w/Backoff WigWag), Knight Rider Sequential LED, NGK Iridium, Power Commander III, Manic Salamander, Saeng mirrors, Garmin Zumo 660, Dark-Side Sumitomo Tire |

| Well I found my new tire on ebay. It was listed for $42, never been mounted, but it also included a "make an offer" I made an offer of $35 and got this tire, with $15 for shipping. So the total costs will be $50.

I expect to mount this after my motorcycle trip from Seattle to New Orleans and back, with many points in between. I will be leaving on Dec. 6., and returning on the 24th. |

Thanks for your concern.
No, I did not. I know what you are speaking of, but I am not concerned about a two or three year old tire in a warehouse. I will wear it out in two or three years, well in advance of it becoming date obsolete. |

Perhaps we got off to the wrong start.
You seem to know all there is about tires.
Is there a God? You might have a worthy answer to such a question, but your opinion of my choice was not asked for, nor appreciated by me.
I know about MY TIRES AND MY CHOICES. You, my friend miss my first post on this thread. I specifically stated that I didn't want to debate the car tire / MC tire. I know what I want. I asked for information regarding what fits on the Swing. I didn't ask you anything.
Let me give you a bit of advice. Just because you have an opinion, does not mean that the majority of forum members want to hear your sarcasm. You weren't asked to pop your mouth off, (moderator removed this word due to disrespect)..... you chose to. And you got a response you didn't like.

| I defend BigBird. I think he knows how to turn wrenches.
As to tires and the poster who told BigBird to do it to himself----I assume your 2 wheel experience has passed the million mile mark. AND of course you wil be mounting the car tire yourself. Learn about DOT marking on side of tire.

| I use to really enjoy this site and I'll really hate it if it dies or I have to leave. All of this "manly" stuff ("go have sex with yourself and the words "go f*%# myself") simply has no place on this forum... I don't care who it is or who started it. So if someone wants to be a "real" man then "man-up" and offer some apology; if not to each other, at least to the rest of the forum. Do you talk to your wives, girlfriends, children, parents, grandparents, sisters or brothers like that??? Well, that's who's on this forum. Many different folks who don't need that kind of crap.
So please knock it off and act like you've got at least a modicum of sense. If nothing else, I hope the admin knocks you off till you come to your senses. |

That is funny....
It would be illegal. A typical motorcycle tire does not have enough weight rating to quality to be installed on a car tire.

I will post again on this thread when I have my new tire mounted on my Swing to offer other forum members my experience on this particular tire.
I apologize to anyone who took offense to my defending myself here. I am relatively new to this forum, but not to motorcycle forums.

| Larry and Bigbird both need to calm down.
Larry, you took this waaay to personally, got indignant, and stooped to name calling. We are friendly around here, and we joke. You need to have a thicker skin than to let one smartass remark set you off like that. Not cool. For the record, we have lots of know-it-alls here, in different subjects, including me, and I'm a MODERATOR. The reason we get that way is from learning it all, and we are a great resource, as is the rest of the family on this board. The know-it-all you burn a bridge with today could be the one you need to solve your problem tomorrow. You could have politely said, "I've read this thread and understand your position and reasoning and I choose to try darksideing anyway. Please respect my choice and don't interfere with my learning more about ways to do it." In other words you could have stated your position without an attack. Learn this for the future and we mods will be happy.
BigBird, you made your point back in January/February. When this thread was restarted it is reasonable to assume that Larry reread the entire thread, including your opinions. His first post in it was reasonable and to the point. You made a dig. Nothing wrong with that.... Once. (You only did it once. I acknowledge that.) But you are a senior member here, and know better than to let someone set you off to the point you ended up. You're better than that. Just an off day for you I guess. We mods try to stay out of most of this because it tends to sort itself out, but if you have a problem like that, report the post and let us handle it. Don't sink the level of a newbie. They need a little time and experience to settle in to our family. _________________ I ride on two wheels cause I feel very unsafe on one wheel.Dan in Miami. The king of custom! | I answered him in kind. Forgive me for sticking up for myself. Let it be said that he won't make my Christmas list.
I reopened an old thread that has plenty of controversy in it. The title of the thread speaks for its self. It was hijacked on several occasions by the naysayers. I asked for very specific information and asked that the debate of car tires not be regurgitated.
You are right. It is pretty easy to sit behind a computer screen and pop off snide remarks. Big Bird is a big boy. He dishes it, he can take it, or can he?
I didn't start a fight but I don't walk around with a mattress tied to my back. I am a motorcyclist and I have seen this type of garbage in the past on other forums and particularly in the first 50% of this thread.
I am not sure what the culture is here. I am still trying to decide if I want to participate here or not. This was not a good welcome, and as far as I am concerned, didn't end up all that well.
I will take some time off from posting here again. I am leaving Dec. 6th on a 6500+ mile round trip on my Goldwing (with a car tire on the back) from Seattle, to LA, Phoenix, El Paso, San Antonio, New Orleans and then back to Dallas and on my way home through LA again. I won't be back here until the first of the year, if at all.
I got the information I wanted and a few lessons on how this forum works. As far as I can tell, the first cheap shot should be expected.
