PostSubject: Re: Scooting the Ozarks, Sept. 14-17, 2011, Eureka Springs, AR   Sun Feb 06, 2011 4:27 pm

I just wanna mention here that you MUST call the host hotel, Comfort INN of Eureka Springs, directly to make reservations. Calling the Comfort INN 800 number will not do the trick. This is a special deal STO has worked out with this one hotel. The pertinent information can be found here: http://scoottheozarks.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=2011details&action=display&thread=803

Personally speaking, I like to tent camp and wont be at the hotel for the rally, but will be at a campground nearby.

Also, Make your reservations as early as possible. The rally, per chance, takes place at the same time as a big U of A football game and the rooms will fill up even though it's 50 miles away.

It's been too cold and snowy for me to get into working on the rides yet, other than looking into routes on a map. Itchin to get started though. I wanna make this a good rally with a lot of good rides. Itchin to try out this new GPS mount that I got from Dennis B too!

See you guys at the rally!

Smorkle has the correct info on the host hotel. Also there is a cutoff date of 8-14-11 for making reservations at the special rate. STO Rally Coordinator Tim visited many hotels in Eureka Springs, speaking to managers/owners and seeing for himself what the rooms and other features look like before choosing Comfort Inn. You can find cheaper rooms in Eureka Springs, but "you get what you pay for". From the photos Tim took himself and posted, and the photos on the Comfort Inn website, it looks like a really nice place.

mybad!. I knew it wasn't the the same hotel chain that was chosen for the rally, i saw Eureka, and assumed Eureka Springs, and i know 1 hotel usually cant accommodate an entire rally so i giving a heads up to those who wouldn't be staying at the host hotel. Fortunately this one is at the other end of the state!

So . . . . . . .how bout i just shut the hell up now!

There have already been rally registrations sent in from 12 different states. Smorkle has registered, and so have my husband and I. Have you mailed yours in yet? Early-bird/lowest-fees registration ends Feb. 28. Also, don't forget to make your hotel reservations. Hope to see you in Eureka Springs in September!

As ride coordinator I feel it is my obligation to come to Eureka Springs a few times before the rally and work out rides that I'm planning. This is one of those weekends.

I decided to stay at the host hotel for my pre-visit. I will have to agree that Comfort Inn is a much nicer place than where we've been the last 2 years. I just checked in and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

The room is pretty good. All of the area is clean. The wall paper and the carpet is a little dated but not atrocious. The painted areas of the room look to have been freshly painted and the window coverings and linens are new and nice looking. The heat works very well (It is March, after all) and there is free wifi internet, which is easy to access.

I had the continental breakfast this morning and it was pretty good. There was a guy down there serving quiche and then there was do-it-yourself waffles and other goodies. I had waffles and boiled eggs and Jen had the quiche. Both were really good. They have Orange, apple and grape juice, enhanced water (whatever that means) and milk as well as coffee.

All in all this looks like a good place for our rally and I'm glad Tim chose it.

This is the last week to receive a discount for pre-registering for the rally early. http://comp.uark.edu/~tkring/STO2011Form.pdf Registration covers 4 days of fun riding, 2 meals (barbecue and pizza), show and shine, and more.

STO is growing every year. Over 70 people, from 16 states, have already pre-registered for STO 2011. For more info, visit the forum (link in signature). Come join the fun in Eureka Springs, September 14-17!

There will be a home Razorback football game the 17th, so hotel reservations should be made soon. If you plan to stay at the host hotel see the forum for instructions for receiving the STO discount.

Less than 12 weeks until STO 2011! Have you mailed in our registration and made your hotel reservations? Comfort Inn is almost fully booked for Friday night. Deadline for making reservations at the STO discounted price is August 14.

New for STO 2011 will be a maintenance seminar by Jean Bartlow. He demonstrates removing, taking apart, inspecting, and reinstalling the clutches on a scooter.

The STO ride coordinator has posted a few proposed ride routes and will be adding more before rally time.

With the twisting roads in and around Eureka Springs, it is a great place for riding scooters and motorcycles. But did you know Eureka has a lot to offer the rest of the family as well?

My daughter and her family took a vacation this week. With Eureka over 5 hours away, there are other places closer to home where they could have gone. Branson, MO is no farther away and larger, yet they chose Eureka for it’s more relaxed atmosphere.

They rode the Trolleys, visited Turpentine Creek, went to the Passion Play, shopped, etc. Even the 9-year-old and the 17-year-old girls had fun. My daughter even got a tattoo (her first) at Body Language.

So come to STO, and bring other family members along as well. Even if they don’t ride, they will be able to find things to do while you are out cruising the twisties.

I just made resevations at the Pine Top Lodge for the nights of 16th and 17th. Looks like I'll get a chance to meet some of you after all. I will not have a scooter but it sounds like alot of fun just to be going. Looking forward to the days of mid Sept.

We look forward to meeting you, DennisB. In 2005 my husband and I attended Scootercade without a scooter (I was recovering from surgery and not able to ride), we still had a good time visiting with everyone. Don't know if it is still open, but there was a scooter rental place near Pine Mountain that rented Metropolitans. Nothing like your Silverwing, but a scooter.

DennisB if you come to our rally in November I have a Morphous you are more than welcome to use. It's only a 250 but when riding with a group of new people it's still fun.The weather hear in Florida should be nice that time of year.
One of our local scooter shops,(Seminole Scooters http://www.seminolescooters.com/ ) has gotten a supplier (Gorilla Motor Works) to offer us a 50/cc scooter for the raffle. And you get one ticket with your rally bag when you check in.We should have a lot of real good raffle prizes also.
The host hotel is giving us a great deal ($75 a night) And it is right where the gulf of Mexico and Tampa bay meet at the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
Hear is the link to our rally. http://www.sunsandandscooters.com/index.html

Thank's Roger for your invite. I had an Uncle that lived in Clearwater for many years. He's gone now but he had an interesting life in Florida. I would like to visit your neck of the woods someday.

Dennis, as you know, Deb and I were in Eureka this weekend. We went by very busy scooter rental place. It is not far from the Pine Top lodge and in the same shopping center with a good eating place you will really enjoy. Grandmas' Beans and Cornbread. Very nice place to eat and the folks running the place are real nice. It is on the same side of HWY 62 as the Pine Top. I think that is the North side. Too far to walk, but very near to drive. Seems like it was less than a half mile.

22 DAYS until STO 2011 in Eureka Springs, AR! Pre-register before Sept. 1 to save $10 off the "at-the-door" registration. Registration covers 4 fun-filled days of great riding in the twisties, Show and Shine, raffle ticket, 2 meals (pizza and barbecue), and more scooter rally fun.

Ride maps have been posted on the forum (great job, smorkle), including files that can be used by your GPS unit.

There are other things taking place the same weekend, such as the All-American Weekend in Eureka Springs, and Razorback football game in Fayetteville, so be sure to make room reservations.

Hope to see you soon!

The rally this year was just great. Even though it started out a little cold and ended up a lot rainy, we just had a blast. I especially enjoyed meeting CathyN and Opalsboy and DennisB. I hope everyone can make plans to attend next year's rally where we will once again go Scootin' the Ozarks.

Ditto on the good time at the STO ... RickeyV was there too. Also found out that Roy aka Smorkle is getting married next spring. He is marrying up.

Make plans to join the fun next year. Great rides, great motel , great friends and great food. Weather was not a real factor until Saturday morning. Really nice for the most part. Everyone that had a part in organizing the rally did a super job.

There was one rider that RODE down from UPPER Ontario. By far he was the longest distance traveler.

Pictures from riders will be going up on the STO web site. I am not a good photographer but have a few I want to put up.

Smorkle, It was good meeting you.

I arrived at the STO Friday night and had dinner with Gary & Deb, Cathy & Bob and a few other scooter friends. It's good to be around wonderful people like these.

It started to rain that night and it did not stop until Sunday morning when I went home but I had a great time visiting with you all and looking at all the great machines gathered in the parking lot on Saturday.

Bob and I has a great time at the STO. Like Roy said meeting Gary (Opalsboy) and Debbie, DennisB, and Smorkle of course and a bunch of other nice folks it was a pleasure to ride and spend time getting to know other scooter riders.

Tim, Tressa, and Roy did a great job organizing the rally. I hope Bob and I will be able to come down next year if our work schedules allow. I'll try and post some pictures on the STO forum soon.

We had a wet ride heading home Saturday but the weather was better riding on Sunday we managed to dodge most of the rain.
