| Hi; I have a 2006 Silver Wing and I'm looking for a top case for the back. Givi makes some great cases for the Silver Wing. My question is what size case to get. Is a 55 litre too big? Should I get a 52 litre? The manual says the top weight on the back should be 22 lbs. Is this accurate? |

| Have a look at the Givi site. http://www.giviusa.com/cases/monokey/ I have an E52 - the E55 longer from front to back and a little deeper. Givi states a maximum load-weight of 10kg/22lbs for both E52 and E55 and as they seem to have quite a cosy relationship with Honda, I think that's the weight that matters, not the total weight of box and contents. Incidentally, the Piaggio X9 500 handbook also says 10kgs for a box. Incidentally, Jeff's posted a real duffers guide/step-by-step pictorial on the forum for fitting the rack to the bike. It really is as straight-forward as it looks. | Smaller the better. My E-46 has about 500,000 miles but it won't wear out and is plenty too big for rear of SilverWing. If you are at all sensitive to handling---Hondas' load limits are real. Lots of weight to the rear and high like rock tied to back of arrow.
Next box will be smaller-----do people overload and not die? yes. I haul trash a short distance at 10mph-----Sometimes beer and pop, etc from WalMart. 1 mile on back streets.....but I have to remember it is there. Scooters work fine in their world, want a big box get HD or GoldWing----but they have their weight limits also. Last time I measured my box top was 54" above ground with bike on centerstand---I don't want the tail waggin the dog.

| I am with John on this one. The top of the box ends up way too high. This may be just a style or taste issue, but dang is that box ever up there. We have V46 boxes and rarely have needed all of the space. Plenty of room under the seat. You don't have to take it all with you every time. |

| Another vote for GIVI V46N Tech. It's the cheapest GIVI 46L and works well. Very easy to remove and put on the mounting plate as needed. You can also get a real nice set of Admore lighting for it. Very bright and much safer, even during daylight. |

I have the Givi E-52 ... I wish I had the E-55 (it was not available when I purchased my E-52).
I have Shoe Multitec helmets (M, XL). I cannot fit both helmets sitting upright ... I have to position the medium upright and the XL on it side with the base facing the M.
There are some people who or concerned with the effect of weight with the larger top boxes. If you are concerned (or paranoid) about the weight effects remember to pack you gold bullion and heavy weighted items under the seat and lighter weight in the top case. I have intentionally mispacked all the weight in the top box to test the effect, all the heavy items in the top case ... which felt closely to riding two-up, once out of the slow speed parking lot turns I did not feel any difference.
The manual says the top weight on the back should be 22 lbs. Is this accurate? [/quote]
That is the Givi legal which covers ALL motorcycles and scooters ... legally they would have to protect themselves for the "minimal" installation.
I have carried a lot more than 22 lbs with no problem.

| I have Bestel (?) and it is nice but not anywhere as nice as the Givi. I had the Givi V46 on the Majesty I had and really liked it. But I didn't feel like spending the money this time around since the Bestel is about 25% the price of the Givi. If I had to do it all over again I think I would get the Givi or a Shad since they are nicer and look better too. But the Bestel does great and I know I have loaded it up with groceries and I think it holds 39 liters so it is a good size. _________________ Ride safe, JeffR 2007 Silver Wing (30,000 miles) 2005 Majesty 400 (sold 12,500 miles) 2004 Reflex (sold 3,500 miles) Givi Windshield, top case, vista cruise, power commander, dr pulley sliders, air hawk seat pad, (J. | Don't forget either that Givi do the MonoLock range as well. The boxes are less posh but I've had two and they do the job very well. They are lighter than the MonoKey ones and cheaper. I wish Givi would make one smaller MonoKey box for days outings, just big enough for a helmet. _________________ Mike - Riding on the right - riding for pleasure!

| GF has an E52 Maxia on her 'wing, and I have (I think), an E450. The conspicuity value of a large case, plus it's reflectors, can't be overstated. The only downside I've encountered is the affect on the CG when the case is loaded. Don't want it on for a ride? Easy to dismount/remount as you please. Additionally, you can wire the higher end Givi's for brake and turn signals. Bright lights up that high? Oh yeah Durable, reliable, and they weather well... A win/win. |

| You can add LED light strips to a Givi or Bestem with a little effort I've done it on both, not much difference in either one. If I remember correctly four screws to remove the reflectors, drill small hole for the wires to run through(used an old mike plug and socket for disconnect).ordered lights from http://www.superbrightleds.com used WFLS series Flexible Light Strips.Ran $11.95 per 19.5in strip in red. Have both brake and running lights thinking of adding turn signals. Craig |
