| It is made out of 5 ply (very strong) plywood. The only purpose of this was to pad the bolts so that no one could get scratched by them. |

| If you read the recent post earlier today, please read all of it. You will see we stood by our product and gave a refund actually the person sending back the defective kit. We have since sold many of these with great feedback and only 1 other person returned it because he did not like it (we refunded them too). We now have templates for the hole spacing issue described in detail from ONE of the first kits we made. They are now re-checked before they are packaged. All the information can be found at http://bestbackrests.com by clicking on the link for the Silver Wing Buttrest to backrest kit tab on top. Thank you and we wish you all Happy Holidays and many happy and comfortable miles. |

I did end up purchasing the pad by itself for half the cost of the pad + brackets and have enjoyed it for more than a year now. It arrived quickly, matches the SWing seat material nicely, and fit perfectly. it appears to be holding up quite well. My only suggestion for improvement would be a little more padding. |

The above is a quote from 2 posts up.
I'm probably the other person mentioned who received a refund.
I bought one, it was not to my liking & I received a full refund the minute they received it back again.
I was out the return postage, but I knew I could be when I purchased it.
Had no complaints with quality control, just the fit of it & my back. |

This is the reason I made my owe following the directions on the Leroy Beal web site at the following link. Thank you Leroy. When you make your own you can bend it to fit your back. http://www.leroybeal.net/motorcycles/silverwing/articles/backrest/backrest.html |

| It seems we only have two people that advertise Silverwing parts here: Semerm12 and DennisB.
Its nice to know they both stand behind their products.
Its actually forums like this that assure it. A bad reputation goes a long way, and when you have a limited clientele that communicates with each other, a single bad move can be devistating.
Thank you both for Being Stand-up people.

| semerm12... does this backrest swivel, fold or any other action to allow the passenger to mount or dismount? IF not, is it easily removable when riding two up? |

| Hi Gary- It does not swing for the passenger to board. It requires two wrenches and about 5 minutes to remove it so a passenger can ride (and again about 5 mins) to re-install it. Factory Honda did not leave us enough room to leave it on with a passenger riding.
Best regards, Happy New Year, and thank you for the inquiry. |

| semerm12 Couldn't you just not leave the adjustment screws out or not to tight and just slide it forward for the passenger to board, then slide it back after they mount? |

| Why don't you just build it with a bit of intelligence, like the folks at Russell do? |

This is just a simple extension to the butrest. I am not sure what they make for a backrest at Russell for the stock Silverwing seat but I am sure it would add a lot to the cost to make something that was able to swing out of the way. I suppose you could cut the bars and add a hing that would bend forward, but that would probably weaken it some. I never ride two up so I never gave it any thought. I did change one thing to Leroys directions, and that was to tap the bars wear they attach to the stock brackets so no nuts were needed. That kept me from needing to add a pad to the extension bars. My low back doesn't hit the extension bars as I bent them enough to me keep pushed forward. It is easy to make to fit your own posture yourself, but we are different shapes, and one size will not fit all. If you can not do your own work pay Big bucks for custom fit local or live with out of the box. |

| I purchased this kit last week. It arrived yesterday and I put it on this AM. Even "I" did this in less than 30 minutes..and I am the most tool challenged person around Angle irons are very stout. All required nuts & washers were in package. Instructions were clear. I did have to slide one of the stock rails in first before connecting it to the main assembly as the new angles caused too much torque to slide both in while mounted. I did tap the backrest bolts a "bit" to move them, but did not want to correct all the alignment issues as I wasn't sure how much movement they could take. I am going to leave the underseat allen bolts off as the torque alone is making sure the assembly is not going anywhere... It's still 34deg so I'm going to wait till the road frost melts before getting out...but I can tell I am already sitting a lot farther back in the seat than with the stock rest in standard position..which is why I purchased this unit. Overall, I'm "very" pleased with both the speedy shipment and the assembly itself. Will update after I've ridden a few hundred miles. **TWO WEEKS LATER** Fantastic seat. Am very happy with the solution and recommend this product to anyone. |
