Please do yourself a favor and watch this very recent video from a rider who learned an important lesson about ATGATT.

And Honda wholeheartedly endorse ATGATT through their marketing!

Yea, I always ride to work in my suit and loafers, no gloves of course; it's all oh so cool, especially if there are lots of women around to look longingly at me as I glide by............................................

Gosh I looked at several of those videos and a couple where they went over guardrails...yikes. You have to wear all your gears and keep your skills up. A miss judgement can cost you a lot...

Why is it, that, no matter what the subject matter, or how serious the subject is, or how humble the speaker is,,, with no restriction on who the message is going out to,,, the guy (in this case) has to really "Man Up" and throw the "F" word out there just as a matter of fact. I'm sorry, and I'm certainly no prude, but I just get sick of people using it like it's an everyday word for impressing whoever might be listening.

Dick,

You're not a prude. I feel the same way about the F word.

I turned it off after I heard it ...

I'd seen this video before. I most certainly agree that his message is valid and that his vocabulary is suspect. I'm not going to go to the leap I've seen on other forums and question his skills.

Ultimately sitting out in the open (exposed) to risk is by definition risky. About all we are doing is managing the risk to reduce the effects. The effects can be reduced, but given the nature of physics they can not be eliminated.

I generally attempt to reduce the risk, but have been known to take the risk lightly. I'm not always an ATGATT guy, but don't think less of those who are. I'm not an advocate of the abolition of helmet laws, and actually do think a bit less of those who are. Some things are obvious. But in the end - tarmac is much less forgiving than the protective gear available to us is able to overcome. The most effective safety gear is available to all of us and is free. Riding is a multi-brain cell activity - read about riding, prepare for riding, practice riding, ride defensively. They may not be trying to kill you, but they can.

Definitely a good reminder.

After seeing this, I was reminded of another site that I had seen a while back (WARNING: This site is contains some very, very graphic images and videos. Definitely "NSFW" and not something that one would want children to see. Will most likely be offensive on some level):

http://home1.gte.net/res0ak9f/bike.htm (formerly "ride2die.com" and "ride2live.com")

There is some debate as what the author(s) intend to communicate (anti-motorcycle? safety awareness?), but I take it as a good, albeit sobering, reminder to always gear up and ride as defensively as possible.

Problem we have regards the bad language, as long as it's seen to be 'cool' to use it will persist. Film makers don't help by sending it up as everyday speak.

In reality the only place I hear it daily is in my contact with the military.

As far as bike dress. My choice is and has always been, ALL the gear all the time. A five minute ride yesterday from the front of the house to the rear and I donned my kit. Only takes one second of distraction and down you go.

Is it worth it. Personally I hate hospitals and what goes on in them. (Pain centres). Evil or Very Mad

I'm with you, Waspie. All the gear, all the time. It's not just a saying. It's a way of life and a good way to keep that life.

When it comes to riding, wear all your gear or suffer and/or die without it.

Yes, you are safer.

But you're even safer if you don't ride at all.
