| The Third Annual Scooting The Ozarks Rally will take place September 15 - 18, 2010 in Eureka Springs, a historic town nestled in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of northwest Arkansas. STO welcomes riders of all scooters, mopeds to maxi, vintage to modern, to join in the fun of riding the twisting roads and other rally events. Check out the forum for details.
Last year STO had some very nice door prizes given away at various times during the rally. This year the Grand Prize is a new 2009 Kymco Agility 125. You must be preregistered for the rally and be present at the drawing to win.
A new addition to our agenda - we are going to have a DJ Dance / Karaoke night, Friday night, Sept. 17. We will dance awhile, sing awhile & just have fun! Our own EuGene Smith has volunteered to host this night. There will be NO extra charge for this event.
We have started a "Roll Call" thread here. I would like to encourage everyone who knows they’re coming to the rally to check in here. Just a fun thing & then you have an idea who’s coming & when.
As of January 1, 2010 Travelers Inn, STO's host hotel, has become an America’s Best Value Inn (no change in ownership since Aug. 31, 2009). Website and phone numbers 479-363-6450 and 800-643-5566 remain the same. Also as of Jan. 1, they are closed for the winter season and remodeling. Therefore, there is no full-time office staff answering phones right now. You can make reservations on-line using the form on their website. Mention STO in the “comments” box, and be sure to include a phone number where you can be reached during the day so that they can call you (within 48 hours) to confirm the reservation. RESERVATIONS |

| This is a really good rally. Kim and I attended the first year and enjoyed riding the roads of north west Arkansas very much. If you attend and would like to do a four state ride - send me a pm and I'll give you a great route.
The rally is organized and has all of the expected rally activities. The draw to us was the roads! |

| STO Rally Coordinator/Director Lou Larson posted the following update this morning. | Quote: | I'm happy to announce that The Jim Evans family will be catering our BBQ this year. Some of you may know Jim from past Scootercades. He did the BBQ's then. Jim is anxious to get back to doing this for us & looking forward to seeing some old friends & meeting new. Jim will be serving us Pulled Pork, Smoked Chicken & BBQ Bologna with all the fixin's to go with it!
I have also made arrangements with Pizza Hut for catering out Pizza Night. Both events will be served from the back hall building on the Travelers Grounds
I spoke with Jerry of the Travelers this morning & he informed me that their is only 14 rooms left @ the Travelers. So again I Highly suggest that if you know your going to come to STO 2010 & want to stay where the action is, Book your rooms NOW. Once the Travelers Is booked full. I will post other Lodging infromation. Jerry owns two other motels in Eureka & has offered the same $50.00 per night plus tax with no weekend rate hikes to ALL STO Rally attendee's at ALL of his motels. Best way to reserve your room is through his webpage. http://www.travelersinn.com/ He has a full staff to take your reservatitions. I must also mention that Tressa & Myself have inspected one of Jerry's other Motels & have found it to also be clean quality rooms as the Travelers.
Pre registration's continue to out pace the previous years. If you have any doubts that I have not received yours. Feel free to E-Mail me @ silverbullet05@verizon.net and I will comfirm yours. |

| As of Monday, April 5, Travelers Inn has only 14 rooms left. When Travelers is full, you can book a room at the Red Carpet Inn (Formerly Wagner Inn) and get the same rally rate as the Travelers. Jerry also owns this motel. Lou and I personally inspected this motel last year when we were in Eureka & found it to be a very nice, clean place.
Lou has invited the local chapter of the CMA (Christian Motorcycle Assn.) to STO. They are going to set up a Hospitality Tent. They will bless your scoot for a safe rally. They have also offered to lead rides if needed.
Start watching the Rally Ride board as Tim will start posting rides soon. The agenda has also been updated since I last posted here.
Remember that you must be pre-registered for the rally before September 1 to be in the drawing for the Agility 125. And registration fees are prorated, so the sooner you register the better for you. |

| Here is the June update from STO coordinator, Lou. | Quote: | by Silver-Bullet » Fri Jun 11, 2010 2:07 pm Terrible day outside here today so its a good oportunity to get some updates out. Rally Registration. Registration will be as it has been in the past. I have made arrangements with the management of Travelers to register you for the rally as you check in to your room. Even if you are not staying there you will register @ the front desk of the Hotel. You will pick up your nametags & your door prize tickets. You will be required to show your nametag for Pizza Night & the BBQ. No nametag no eats. I will have better nametags this year. So they won't be so easy to lose. With 3 months to go to the rally, I can say this is going to be well attended this year. We have already surpassed the total number I had Pre registered from last year. Tell a friend, This is going to be FUN! And someone is going home with a NEW 2009 Kymco Agility 125! Thank You to all that have Pre registered & supported STO. Without you this couldn't happen. |

| I am going to ride up look around on 15th. I do not go on group rides as they are just too dangerous, nor do I care about organized things----Will try to do one day from Chattanooga----Bad factor for me is ear discomfort---Freeway, even with new windshield, ear plugs necessary and they get really uncomfortable after 8 hours or so. Take mine out at every stop and use new ones in afternoon. Back roads=no plugs, slower speed, less surrounding noise.
When it was Helix--Scoot Tours ---there were some great turnouts until the trailer bikers started outnumbering those who rode in. I remember one 76 year old good guy who rode in from MD on 180 Honda Scooter really bitching about those on trailers. He was right. I am over 70 now and feel same way. Hope it is filled with riders.
Vendors always interesting.

I use these ear plugs ( http://www.earplugsonline.com/ ) all day which fit like custom earplugs.

| I buy them by big box----usually in welding shops---- EAR------Helmet must also have clearance if any sticks out. Last time $28 for at least a 8x10 x6 inch box.
A little Vaseline in ear Canal helps, plus proper insert technique. I they get stuck, tweezer or needle nose gets them out.
I have had custom fitted---in trash.

| So I rode up to this rally----arriving on Thurs.
From Chattanooga roundtrip 1400-1500 miles----some real back roads were used----their must be contest in Arkansas to see who can have most crap in yard. Roads from good to 3rd world.
So I got to the rally motel---same one as in the heyday of Helix gatherings. Also did see one group riding 6-8 bikes, riding
Now I think this is/was trailer biker rally---lot of trailers sitting ar ound---didn't bother to look at the camp ground where the clever hid their trailers in the past.
I don't think there was big turnout. Saw 4 or 5 scooters parked at Motel with training wheels---back tires not worn flat, so they were probably hauled in.
I have nothing in common with those that trailer in---I am old, 71, DAV, etc, but ride---Daytona/Sturgess trailer bikers heaven----Even the Elephant Rally in Europe has those who pretend they rode in to this mid winter rally, started in 1956---you can spot them in the woods, near their cars changing into their riding duds.
Was passed by pickup with TX plates with Burgman 650 riding in the back, later saw it on streets.
So had lunch----left...rode some more roads I had not been on. Went home---trip hot, usual sothern dirty bathrooms and lots of idiots on the Freeway in their pick up and SUV's----rude people

| There are rude people wherever you go, you just have to learn to ignore them. As far as the restrooms you need to find the blond gal from the clean restroom joke to go in before you do.Wish I could have gone, seems all I'm able to do is short rides at this time, life seems to be getting the way.Took a 5mile ride to church this morning, can't figure out what happened on the way back that 5 miles turned into around 60 miles, thought I was taking a shortcut home. | I had such a great time at this rally. We always take the opportunity of the rally to tent camp and we simply cant fit all the things necessary to do that in/on the scooter, so we put it in the back of our truck and ride when we get there. The truck only got as many miles as it takes to get to the campground and never moves until the day we pack up. We have made the ride from KC to Eureka Springs on a scooter, but tent camping would be VERY hard.
We never tried to fool people into thinking we rode it there and have no problems with people bringing their scoots in this way. Some people had 3-5 scoots on a trailer as they want to ride big ones and little ones at the same rally.
Ride safe and have fun. |

Well i will go next year, and if any members plan on trailering down, i live in Springfield, like an hour or so from Eureka springs, so i could host a few trailers, and i am intimately familiar with all the twisty, scenic backroads in the ozarks, and all the trashy southern bathrooms, and i have a pickup! |
